Perry on Haley: I'd rather call in the Marines
Politico ^ | December 16, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 12/17/2011 2:40:58 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Rick Perry shrugged off his fellow southern state governor, South Carolina's Nikki Haley, deciding to back rival Mitt Romney, in an interview with CNN's John King.

"That’s one vote, I’ll be real honest with you, I’ve got a medal of honor recipient Jim Livingston, who endorsed me on the deck of the Yorktown last week, and you know, no offense but I like those guys that have that type of long-time record of endorsements," said Perry, according to POLITICO's Emily Schultheis. "I greatly respect Gov. Haley, but if I had to pick between the two, love having those veterans stand up and say this is the guy, this is the man for the job."

Perry also again dinged Ron Paul for suggesting that there is no real evidence Iran is moving to acquire nukes, saying, "There should be no space between the United States and Israel, and I was just really taken aback by Ron Paul’s almost nonchalant statement about, you know, let the mullahs go, there’s not any evidence that they’re getting a bomb. That’s certainly not my information, I’m relying on some pretty wise and plugged-in people – I talk to John Bolton on a regular basis and the ambassador is greatly concerned about Iran."

Rush said her numbers are lower than Obama’s and that this may keep her politically viable within the GOP establishment.

mitt and newt will sign any marxist gun control bill put in front of them... a commie and a socialist... if Perry, Bachmann or Santorum win... we must purge the party of leftists... and mitt and newt are both leftists.

“Niki Haley (my Governor) jumped the shark endorsing Romney”

Don’t you think Romney called in the marker and said he needed the endorsement now? It was inevitable, y’know.

Newt wrote the forward to "Fed up". He saw the writing on the wall being the political animal he is.

I still think Cain was used to dilute the conservative vote because of his extremely weak attempts to hijack the states rights platform.

I was shouting at my TV during the debate when Bachmann brought up Newt not being willing to defund Planned Parenthood, because Perry did defund it in Texas, resulting in 13 shut downs so far and the Obama Administration has threatened to withhold funding for breast cancer screening if Perry and Texas doesn't start funding planned parenthood again.

I mean jeeze this is going on right now as we speak. Obama picked this fight last week. I was wanting Perry to break into the convo and say "Hey! Everything you people are talking about I am currently dealing with with this a-hole in DC!"

It is what is inside of newt that cannot be tolerated... the man is a progressive by any measure. In the last 20 years... newt has grown more progressive with each passing year... and his big mouth cannot contain his inner newt.

Trading her endorsement for a possible position in a mythical romney admin might keep her “viable” within the champagne/golf/mansion/elite set, but it ain’t gonna do her any good at all in the real world. It is a very cynical ploy.

Sounds like more tin-ear foot-in-his-mouthism from Perry. Maybe that machismo will fly in Texas, but dissing a female governor by saying he’d rather have a military man saying he’s the ‘man’ for the job? If it’s possible, I think Perry’s popularity with female GOP and independent female voters outside of Texas just fell further.

I5 put Haley and even Mitt up against Perry on illegal immigration any day.

COD has always been an embarrassment, though her primary opponent was even worse.

Perry does best with women. Perry is on the rise. I would rather have the other Haley anyway, Haley Barbour.

Perry does not have a tin ear. He is right on schedule and he knows exactly what he is saying. This will hurt Nikki Haley far more than it will Rick Perry. She needed Perry and Palin's help just to get elected. By the way she joined with Perry to write a great Op-Ed on Cut, Cap and Balance during that whole debacle.

This endorsement is a joke and bought and paid for unless she is simply a trial balloon for the other Republican Governors. If that is what she was I expect the other Republican Governors to hold their fire until after Iowa and then come-out for Perry.

And Obama and Holder are coming after Texas on our new voter ID bill and redistricting. Obama's EPA and Energy Department are keeping the lawyers busy going after Texas and Perry. Obama has begun taking EPA restrictions off the table as he is reading the tea leaves and Perry's use of this as a strong campaign issue.

Perry sued and won the right for Texas to spend some of our own money w/o fed controls. "Educators" are on his back because Perry wants lower education costs and accountability, and has been successful in getting other governors interested in his proposals.

The lawyers have said they will heavily target Perry because of his tort reform success. And radical union leadership will pour membership dues into his opponents' coffers and do anything to derail a possible Perry presidency. The NOW gang will eagerly line up to give bjs to anyone ready, willing and able to keep Perry out of the WH because of his strong, consistent position on family, faith and Life.

When this many interest groups are lined up against you, you know you're doing things right for the people.

You nailed the problem with Newt. He has become more liberal with age, not more conservative. The same thing happened to John McCain. Went to the Great Whore a conservative and when he had suckled till he could suckle no more, he walked out a liberal with no compass. Just a political animal.

That's what happens when you never go home but just hang out in your condo in DC having drinks with Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi and think they're personally swell people.

What Perry should have said is simply that he would have liked to have Gov. Haley’s endorsement, but he was proud to be able to announce the other endorsement—and then talk that up.

Though Gingrich and Paul have more of a female gap, Perry is way behind Romney with women.

I sincerely disagree with your assessment.

Earlier (when Perry was wearing a back brace from spinal fusion surgery).

Give me a break 9 year. That angle is played out. The writing is on the wall and everyone sees it.

Perry has been thoroughly vetted by Conservatives and the tide is turning in his favor.

even on Free Republic, where Perry has been through the ringer, everyday more and more Freepers are moving to Perry. Mitt played his "illegal" card and it worked but Perry has the pro-life card, the 2nd Amendment card, the States Rights card, the job creator card, the military man card, the salt of the earth card.

Perry is in this until Florida at the minimum, he has said so himself. Perry works hard at earning votes and voters like that.

Not with this independent female living outside of Texas! I LOVED it! The veteran's votes are not BOUGHT.

“When the choices are newt and romney... Perry, Bachmann and Santorum look pretty good. All three have flaws but none of those three are nearly as flawed as newt and romney.”

I may vote for Perry, if he is still running when AZ votes. However, the 3 candidates you mention DO have a huge problem. They have the charisma of a pile of dog poop.

In pre-TV days, that wouldn’t matter. But in today’s politics, that is a HUGE liability.

“I’m am going to take a wrecking ball to the Washington establishment.” -R Perry

A couple of points. His miscues are irrelevant, so is that pension thing. On immigration, I don’t know all, but I suspect a R congress would keep his feet to fire and all would be fine. Also he has Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s endorsement.

Perry would bring the BIG fight that we really want. And an ecstatic base. I can picture the convention and the passionate crying... And billions of $ for this big cause, and a sharp distinction with the left to drive victory. The $ he will get alone make Perry the most electable.

I was with a group of Republicans last night and we discussed the fact that Second Amendment rights seems to be overlooked. Maybe there’s still time.
