What happened to Christmas on network television? (Vanity)

Posted on 12/23/2011 2:13:15 PM PST by Ge0ffrey

This is the letter I've written to the television networks:

More than 80% of the United States is Christian, yet there are almost no Christmas specials on your network this year. It's as if there were no such holiday as Christmas. Not like the old days, that's for sure. It's a shameful trend by you secular humanists who run our culture, unfortunately. So now I break out my own commercial-free Christmas recordings, and spend an ABC/NBC/CBS-less Christmas with my family! God bless America.

I’ve noticed several Charlie Brown & Shrek specials. Also, Comedy Central is showing a Christmas marathon now. Right now is South Park’s Merry Christmas Charlie Manson. Up later is the Woodland Critter Christmas.

Actually ... what happened for much of it is that some years back the copyright holders of many of the great Christmas movies (It’s a Wonderful Life leading the way), pulled back on permitting unfettered use of their copyrights for broadcast as they felt there movies were being used too often which was diluting their special nature. Therefore, you don’t see nearly as much as you used to.

And while I do miss being able to see them more often, I think there is some merit in that decision as it does make for a more special moment like back in the day when you’d build the evening around the yearly broadcast of the Wizard of Oz, etc.

Actually ... what happened is the secular humanists in the media decided there weren’t going to be any more Christmas specials. That’s why there are few or no new Christmas specials.

I don’t know what TV you’re watching, but I’ve seen plenty of Christmas specials and shows over the past month. Last night watched the Twilight Zone’s Christmas show with Art Carney as Santa. Just saw Holiday Inn over the weekend. Taxi rerun with their Christmas show. And I’m not even trying to find the stuff. Christian tv channel has had a number of specials on the birth of christ.

Here’s a complete list.... http://christmas-specials.wikia.com/wiki/2011_Christmas_Special_and_Movie_Schedule

More than 80% of the United States is Christian

This would be a much better country if this was true.

(Of course, I speak of Christians who actually know, believe, and live by the teachings of the Bible. There are plenty of folks who identify culturally as Christians, but couldn't tell you the first thing about the specifics of the faith. Not nitpicking here -- this fact is a significant reason why our culture is what it is now.)

You spelled "ruin" wrong.

Maybe the networks can’t get sponsors for Christmas. Christmas has been replaced by $anta Clau$. Didn’t someone say it’s not a Christian country any more - we do have approved ‘choice to babies’, gay marriages and a lot of children on Government food stamps.

We are in the final stages of the bolshevik takeover that Yuri Bezmanov discussed back in the ‘80’s. Education and the media were their first targets...and who can deny their success? We conservatives are so outnumbered that, if our beliefs were enacted, anarchy would ensue. We have created a dependent class that will not go quietly into the night. 51% of adults are married now compared to over 70% in my youth. I don’t recall gangs then, but that may be a coincidence.

On cable, I have enjoyed the multiple versions of both “The Christmas Carol” and “Nutcracker” and local PBS is showing “The Messiah”. I haven’t watched much on the alphabet channels except sports for some years.
