Iowa rep behind "bigot protection" bill emcees Perry event

CLARINDA, Iowa - Gov. Rick Perry stumped this afternoon with a conservative state lawmaker who promoted legislation that would allow religious nonprofits and small businesses to refuse to serve gay couples whose marriage offends their religious views.

State Rep. Richard Anderson, R-Clarinda, made headlines in Iowa earlier this year for pushing the legislation, which died in the Legislature in February. Critics dubbed it a "bigot protection" bill. Supporters called it an effort to protect "religious conscience."

His introduction of Perry Tuesday at a town hall-type event was notable instead for the fact that he referred to Perry as the governor of California. When Perry jumped in to correct him and the crowd of 75 or so laughed, and Anderson milked the moment.

"Have you ever been on stage, with cameras bearing down, and said something that doesn't make sense. That ever happen to you?" he said to Perry, alluding to the governor's "oops" moment in a televised debate. "He's the governor - of a big state."

This was Perry's second Iowa stop of the day, at the Glenn Miller Museum. The museum honors the big band leader whose music provided the soundtrack for the World War II generation, including Perry's father, a tail gunner who recounted for his son that he got to see Miller and his band at a celebration of his bomb group's 200th mission. (Perry called his dad on the drive from Council Bluffs, he said, and heard the story.)

Perry Wins IPad and IPhone Vote (We CAN take on China and win!)…….”While the rest of the country has been suffering from Obama-itis (too much government regulations and power hungry unionism), Texas has been trying to make itself attractive to business (by limiting regulations, empowering free work rules, limiting frivolous lawsuits, educating ALL its people, limiting taxes) Which brings me back to the IPad and IPhone. As many of you know (well, at least the tech-knowledgeable among us), the brains of the IPAD and IPhone is the A5 chip. These chips are now made in Texas in a new $3.6 Billion facility. How big is this new facility? Well, to put it in terms any Texan would understand: Nine football fields. This is a major facility:

The A5 chip inside Apple’s iPad 2 and iPhone 4S is now being produced stateside (In Texas), according to Reuters. Sources familiar with Apple’s production details told the news organization that Samsung Electronics is now handling production of the A5 in Austin, Texas. Among manufactured products, the state’s leading export category is chemical manufactures, which accounted for $38.4 billion (20 percent) of Texas’ total merchandise exports in 2008. Other top 2008 manufactured exports were computers and electronic products ($35.2 billion), machinery manufactures ($27.3 billion), and petroleum and coal products ($25.3 billion).”…….

“You don’t have to vote for a candidate who would allow Iran to wipe Israel off the face of the earth,” he added, in a poke at Ron Paul.

The Paulbots are not amused! :)

He’s looking strong in Iowa. I think he has a good shot at 2nd or 3rd place in the caucus vote. That’s all he needs to get momentum for SC and Fla., IMO.
