Cultural Imperialism: We Will Make You Believe
Truth About Bills ^ | 12/29/2011 | Mark Mayberry

Posted on 12/29/2011 10:03:16 AM PST by Mark Mayberry

Have you ever wondered why the Islamic world hates America Cultural Values?

Ron Paul has a theory and it was quoted by the Des Moines Register, “I see that motivation is occupation and those who hate us and would like to kill us, they are motivated by our invasion of their land, the support of their dictators that they hate.”

I tend to disagree to an extent. I don’t think it is our presence in the region as much as it is our cultural differences. When you look at Islamic countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq you must understand that these countries have a grasp of history and heritage that we can ever understand in the United States.

In the Middle East, people and families have been practicing the same religion and cultural customs for over a thousand of years. Now we are trying to impose on them a “better way”, our way.

Without even asking and in our arrogance we as a nation have decided to engage in cultural imperialism. What do I mean by cultural imperialism? What I mean is the taking over of countries by eradicating or attempting to eradicate their culture.

We are attempting to force out their way of life because we feel that it is socially unacceptable. To us much of Middle Eastern culture is distasteful, particularly dealing with crime and punishment.

The question I have is simple. Who are we to dictate to other people what their cultural practices should be comprised of?

In truth their ways are not ours but should we really seek to change what has worked for them since before America?

We as American’s foolishly assume that everyone around the world wants Christianity and Democracy. This just is not the case and the sooner we accept this as fact, the sooner we will be able to draw down our troop levels in the Middle East.

The United States exports its culture all over the world via media everyday. Now it is not the fault of our country that we provide entertainment to other cultures because in all fairness they want it.

However, we must understand the consequences of it. The nickname for the United States, The Great Satan, did not come from nowhere. Our society is infested with immoralities and because of this we infect other cultures with the same.

The Obama administration has been increasingly involved in the cultural aspects of countries in the Middle Eastern region.

The president has increased money going to international aid groups that fund family planning. We supplied 700 million dollars in 2011 for family planning internationally. Under Obama, groups are rallying to receive as much as a billion dollars a year for family planning by 2015, according to LifeNews.

This is not all, most recently the Obama Administration has tied aid funding to acceptance of gay rights. President Obama was quoted by CBS News as saying, “"The struggle to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons is a global challenge, and one that is central to the United States' commitment to promoting human rights."

Secretary Clinton echoes this statement by telling various diplomats that religious and cultural traditions are no excuse for discrimination against homosexuals.

This is just forcing people to decide between eating and recanting their religion. If we believe so strongly in self-determination then why don’t we allow people to determine their own cultural norms?

America better wake up to the fact that we cannot force people to believe what we do and act the way we want them to. The reason Islamic extremists are able to keep such a captive audience is because the people of these countries can see that we are forcing our corrupt practices on them.

I for one do not agree with the way Islamic countries conduct themselves and I do not want anyone to get the wrong idea. I feel that their religious ideology is incredibly backwards, however it is not up to me. I do not live there and it is quite frankly none of my business. If they do not want to educate their wives and daughters or allow them to drive, what issue is it of ours?

In closing I want to paint you a picture and imagine how you would feel about this.

What if America was poor and in shambles and Saudi Arabia came here and occupied America. Then they started to tell you that your daughter couldn’t attend school and your wife wasn’t allowed to drive. They even took it a step further and told you that everything you believe is false and backward. They mocked your God and told you that you either had to accept child molesters or you would not receive any aid. With no aid your children are going to starve to death. What would you do?

You have it exactly ass-backwards - we are fighting them because THEY are attempting to press their religion and values on US. We are not flooding into their countries. THEY are flooding into ours. Their populations aren’t being lectured ad nuaseum about tolerance of foreign religions and cultures. We certainly are.

So we should pull our heads back into our shell again because other cultures don’t want to even know we exist? I don’t recall anyone inviting the 9/11 terrorists to America. They came here because they want to carry their war to us, not because we declared war. If they don’t like our presence in the world, they can kick us out of their countries, deny tourism, and shut down foreign programming on their TV stations. But we shouldn’t have to shut up for anyone. It’s not America’s fault that we’re hated by some. It’s theirs.

What if America was poor and in shambles and Saudi Arabia came here and occupied America.

But we aren't, and they can't. Know why? We won. Our way of life is better, based on outcomes. Objectively.

This cultural equality BS is just that... BS. Some cultures ARE better than others. Objectively, based on outcomes.

Speak to me again when some muslim hell-hole gets to the moon.

I once spent a week in Saudi Arabia on business. Most of the time, I was too damn busy to take in any of the culture, which I generally try to do when time permits. Not because I necessarily like the culture, but because it is an educational part of doing business in foreign countries.

One night, I couldn't sleep, so I got up and turned on the tube to channel surf. I skipped BBC, CNN and all the crap you could get anywhere and looked strictly for local channels. Everything was either talking head shows or some religious dude caterwauling like a banshee.

Now I don't hate religion nor begrudge anyone the right to worship as they see fit, even if I think they are nuts. F'rinstance, I rather enjoy Buddhist and Hindu chants because I find art even in a limited range of tone.

But try as I might, I couldn't get into Saudi TV. Finally, I located a channel with children's programming. Excellent quality animation, I thought, until I looked close enough to figure out it was Japanese programming dubbed in Arabic.

Long story short is that one of the biggest most diverse cities in Saudi Arabia made your average Podunk town in the Rocky Mountains look culturally sophisticated.

“....we are fighting them because THEY are attempting to press their religion and values on US.”

.
Something not right with your logic.

We’re letting them in by the plane load and protect their “values” while they’re here, so that we can fight them?

We let them in because we are suicidal. Have you ever heard any redeeming stories on Islam? It is guaranteed that you never will.

I am no Ron Paul supporter but I ask this question.
What if China becomes the biggest economic country in the world and decide they want to spread around a little of their “ Capitalist Imperialism” around in America with our government support of course. They set up military bases in our country and others to “protect” us from the ravages of South Korea or maybe Japan.
What would Freepers think or do about this situation?

The US needs to return to Containment policy. Muslims stay in their lands, and we stay in ours.

Don’t like how your country is a theocracy? Then do something and don’t emigrate to the US or Europe and demand everything changes to fit YOUR needs.

Marxist multiculturalism. All cultures are equal. This destroys logic and reason.

Not all cultures are equal. Many things can determine which lead to flourishing societies where individual rights belong to all or just a segment of the people.

Christianity elevated women and gave them individual rights, as it did to slaves and minorities—and all religions. It is the most rational religion and aligned with Natural Law Theory—that which is the basis of our legal system.

That said—cults shouldn’t be classified as a “religion” and given protected status in America. Wicca doesn’t classify under the Founder’s definition of religion. Nothing would, which didn’t acknowledge God-given inalienable rights—the basis of our legal system.

Behaviors or urges that destroy the body and lead to disease and dysfunctional relationships with the opposite sex is also sexist and unconstitutional. Virtue is a big part of USA law—a known quantity essential for Freedom—understood by all Founders and written into our laws—Right Reason according to Nature. Laws which protect unnatural behaviors and give them “special rights” are unconstitutional.

Right now-—Paul should realize that we have secular humanists forcing their Atheist Marxist culture on us-—trying to totally TRANSFORM our nation from one Under God-—to one Under Barney Frank. BIG DIFFERENCE, PAUL!!!! You can’t have Rule of Law when there is no Objective Truth. Moral Relativism is being forced on us by zero—in the military and schools and it is evil. Talk about FORCING CULTURAL CHANGE. THE MARXISTS have been forcing their godlessness and unconstitutional ideas on us for a hundred years. They control the schools—UNCONSTITUTIONAL, Paul. (I know he knows that!) but he doesn’t understand that Atheism is not compatible with our Founding Priniciple’s of Natural Rights from God.

There is religious freedom in this country-—but there still has to be God in are legal system ALL THE TIME and a preference given to a belief in God over the godless—just like our Founders did. They did not allow atheists on the Bench——since atheists can’t believe we have inalienable rights from God.

Get with it Paul. Quit being so obtuse—as most Libertarians are so naive and ignorant about the difference between atheism and theism. Study history for goodness sakes! Atheism wreaks of moral relativism and millions of dead, distorted corpses. Understanding human nature—God is always necessary—and it doesn’t work for an allah, hinduism, buddhism—wicca===all other systems of belief are failures in many areas where freedom is measured. Only Christianity was aligned to Natural Law Theory by St. Aquinas—and so, it remains the most compatible religion to a Nation founded upon John Locke’s theory of Natural Law.

Zero is trying to throw out God—as is Hillary and the sodomite pushers. This can never be allowed with our Constitution. We have God-given Natural Rights. Children can NEVER be FORCED in public schools to think “sodomy is good”. It turns virtue and our legal system UPSIDE DOWN. You make evil=good. Can’t do it with Objective Truth being the basis for our laws.

Based on conversations I have had with Saudis in Saudi Arabia, there is resentment in the muslim street towards US support of the house of Saud, which is hated by many Saudis. The questions I kept hearing was, why, if the US is all about democracy, do we support oppressive regimes throughout the region? Our foreign policy is not about exporting liberty and freedom, but all about the once almighty dollar, to which the idea of liberty and freedom for the oppressed takes a back seat.

Funny you should mention South Korea and Japan. I see precious little anti-American terrorism from those places despite a heavy US military presence. Ditto most other places in the world. There's plenty of anti-American terrorism in Saudi Arabia and we are granted a military presence there only under urgent circumstances. I guess to answer your question I believe that Americans would tend to blame their own leaders and put a quick end to it.

I hear about America attemtping to spread its culture, presumably by force, to other countries who do particularly want it. I'd like to see some examples of this

Also, with the exception of the recent actions in Iraq & Aghanistan I believe we have bases in other countries at the invitation of that country and would leave if they insisted. Further, it is unarguable that the effect of our presence has been stabilizing and has enabled those host countries to flourish economically.

I don't see your example sharing any of those characteristics.

If you read my question ,how would you feel if the Chinese, Muslims from any country, Japanese, or Mongolians setting up a military base in our country under the premise of protection? How would you feel?

Yes I know but it proves the point that American military bases abroad aren’t responsible for 911.

Mark,
you can lead a horse to water and you cant make it drink, you can lead a kid to school and not make it think....
America is a nation founded in Christianity. Its democracy is intertwinned with that to right down to the reformation and the Magna Carta. Our advancement was based on that.

Islam? is 700 years younger and never went through any evolution.... thus they continue to be relatively backwards living on old technologies from the west. Show me one invention they have made to modern man. Show me their noble peace prizes for hard sciences like the jews have collected/

And, why don’t you tell me why poverty, illiteracy, unemployment are the highest in islamic third world countries?

Like Africa, they call for support and aid, and from who? The US of A!
