Why Patrick Cunningham is first Fast and Furious conspirator to plead the 5th

Last week, Patrick Cunningham, chief of the criminal division of the Arizona US Attorney’s office, informed Darrell Issa’s House Government Reform and Oversight Committee investigating Obama Administration involvement in Operation Fast and Furious, that he would be pleading the 5th Amendment in his scheduled February 2nd deposition before the committee. (1)

Cunningham worked with Arizona US Attorney Dennis Burke who resigned last year after his involvement in Fast and Furious had made him a prime subject of congressional investigators.

Document dumps and Eric Holder’s testimony before the House committee in December have made the tactics of the Department of Justice in its bid to continue the Fast and Furious cover up quite clear: accuse all of those in distant Arizona of having provided the folks in Washington DC with misinformation concerning the criminal “gunwalking” operation in order to keep DC, Obama political appointees in the clear.

For example, according to DOJ officials it was ATF agent in charge of the Phoenix office Bill Newell and Dennis Burke who provided Main Justice with statements denying the walking of guns across the Mexican border had ever taken place.

That “misinformation” led Assistant Attorney General Ron Weich to write a February, 2011 letter to congress which had to be retracted at the end of the year as it had proclaimed the innocence of Eric Holder’s Justice Department in the gunwalking affair.

But the fact someone will plead the 5th Amendment, refuse to answer committee questions as he may tend to incriminate himself, is VERY significant to say the least.

For Cunningham had 3 options going before committee staff. He could tell the truth and incriminate...

The U.S. Attorney's office in Arizona is pretty much made up of scum and guys who couldn't find a job in the private sector. The women are just as bad, but too butt ugly to find a job in a bordello.

There is no integrity in the whole organization. There is only commitment to prosecute Obama's enemies. And they have gone nuts on our Sheriff Joe since his office begin the investigation of Obama's birth certificate.

And the Democrats and one community organizer are trying to turn the Arizona U.S. attorney into their own personal gestapo.

Under the circumstances, Cunningham is making the smart decision. Once he is granted immunity, he can spill the beans.

If the illegal gun running operation were only a local Arizona operation, Holder would have fired and prosecuted those responsible in Arizona. He has done neither. That is the proof that Holder and Obama are aware and approved of the Gun Running Operation.

If Holder knew and Obama did not, Obama would have fired Holder and instructed the new Attorney General to prosecute Holder immediately.

None of this has happened. This goes all the way to the top.

Doesn’t he have an option 4?

Agree to testify with immunity?
