Shawano, WI Liberty Counsel is representing the Wegner family after school officials at Shawano High School censored and punished Brandon Wegner, a 15-year-old, for writing an op-ed article explaining the Biblical view of homosexuality and supporting natural mother-father adoption. Liberty Counsel sent a letter to the school demanding it apologize for its unconstitutional and irrational censorship and humiliation of Brandon.
Brandon quoted several verses from the Bible regarding homosexuality. After Brandon wrote this article he was pulled into hours of meetings with school administrators and staff, without his parents knowledge. This caused him to miss exam preparation classes and at least one exam. Brandon was hauled before the superintendent on charges that he had violated the schools bullying policy. Superintendent Todd Carlson told him that the column went against the bullying policy, and asked him if he regretted writing it. When Mr. Wegner stated that he did not regret writing it, and that he stood behind his beliefs, Superintendent Carlson told him that he had got to be one of the most ignorant kids to try to argue with him about this topic, that we have the power to suspend you if we want to and that the column had personally offended me, so I know you offended other people!
Brandons opinion was a part of an editorial page which presented viewpoints both for and against homosexual adoption, each articulated by students. After the school newspaper was published in the local town paper, a homosexual in the community complained to the school. School officials then censored Brandon's article forcing him and his classmates to pull the page out of the newspaper before distribution at the school. In a statement, the school sincerely apologized not for allowing the topic to begin with, but only for the Biblical viewpoint presented by Brandon. The First Amendment protects the opinions of all, including student journalists.
Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, said The bullying at Shawano High School is by Superintendent Todd Carlson and the school officials, not the student, Brandon Wegner. The school officials have displayed blatant intolerance of a view on homosexuality held by many people. The schools actions are shocking and unjustified. The superintendent should immediately apologize and stop the bullying.
This.
One time i took a class in a college and one of the professors was making fun by showing a offensive cartoon clipping degrading republicans. When i spoke up about it,the person made fun of me about it.
Wonder if that super is himself a poofter?
The Levitical verses are edifying, but most people quoting them forget to include the part that puts their scope beyond that of just some supposed “primitive Hebrew tribe.” The text containing the prohibition goes on to mention that other peoples got themselves in trouble that way. That’s the real way to nail the case. It isn’t like the prohibitions on pork, certain fabric blends, etc. that truly are Hebrews-specific.
now that is really lily livered of them.
Freedom of expression is not really encouraged in public schools except in vague theory.
When Liberty Counsel files a lawsuit for this kid, the school district will fold like a cheap suit. Liberty Counsel simply does not lose these type of cases.
Want to bet that the school administration has an exemption from its own bullying policy? The same way Congress exempts itself from its laws.
That victim of a socialist agenda driven school could wind up owning that school.
Stand your ground..... fine young man.
"Bullying" is operationally defined in public schools as failing to endorse The Gay Agenda.
I like them already.
Would anyone know if this wouod be one of those “color of authority” matters involving a civil rights violation? Seems to me if I have it right, this would be a clear-cut case of a federal civil rights lawuit in the making. If we had an objective arbiter of the law in DC, there would be an action taken very quickly for something like this.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:10-12
Mr Carlson, at that point was attempting to commit extortion, which is a felony under the law. Brandon's parents should have *both* come to Carlson and effected an imnmediate citizen's arrest for same.
The time for "civility", and civil courts is over with. When outright criminal acts are done to further the radical agenda of a minority, then said acts should be treated as the crimes they indeed are...
the infowarrior
Deprivation of civil rights "under color of authority" is NOT a civil matter, it is a felony under federal law...
The time for lawsuits where the judgement is paid by the TAXPAYERS over the antics of these two-bit Saddan Hussein wannabes should be OVER WITH. When some officious little petty tyrnat like Carlson actually does "a nickel" in a very real prison for the ciminal acts they are committing, then, and only then, will they come to a screeching halt...
I sent an e-mail to the Psych Perfesser Mz.C. Smith and the
Reprobate Perfesser turned my e-mail over to the Campus Cops.
I got a series of e-mail form the Campus Cop who was “concerned” so I sent a letter to the editor of the Press Gazette assuring them that I never said anything to the Perfesser anybody but a Reprobate would consider a threat —unless of course Truth telling and being a man who is not ashamed to exercise his Constitutional recognized rights while he still can is a threat. The Perfesser made some incredibly STUPID comments somebody had to tell her she was embarrassing herself and her supposed profession.
I sent another e-mail to the Press Gazette after reading an editorial that said the kid had a right to believe whatever he wants—but No right to publish those ideas in a school paper. The editor took the leftist dodge that there are forums
for such discussions-and though he could not name any he knew a school paper was no place for such discussions. And he hoped it would prove a teachable moment where the kid would learn the crackheads mantra - Can’t we all just get along! Perhaps the kid could have made an argument the godless /sic. secular world might have understood. But he stood on what he believes True-and deserves others standing with him.
