It's Not About Newt
American Thinker ^ | January 28, 2012 | Joseph M. Koenig

GOP voters are sending a clarion call to the party establishment, but it seems GOP leaders are not getting the message. The statement being sent to the GOP elite isn't about Newt, and it goes beyond even Romney. It is about a deep dissatisfaction that has been building for years within the Republican rank and file.

With the proclamations of Bob Dole and others against Newt Gingrich recently, it is clear the GOP establishment fears a Gingrich nomination. In truth, however, it is the GOP establishment's own ineffectual leadership that led to the recent surge of the former Speaker of the House.

Our only hope is to repeal the Sixteenth Amendment but that will never happen so prepare for collapse.

The Seventeenth Amendment needs to be trashed also.

I think this article pretty much nails it!

I have been working in the republican party trenches for more than 30 years now and I’m SICK TO DEATH of hearing “Wait till next time” for a whole host of things that are, and long have been, MAJOR platform issues!

Next time is here dammit! Not going to wait ANY longer! I want my country back NOW!

I think Newt has a good chance, polls are meant to discourage the folks. Newt is drawing bigger crowds yet you go home and see the polls and it is discouraging. The TP folks are not going to vote for Mitt so in a sense this is TP vs establishment as well. It will be close but I think Newt may pull this out. I will say this Newt seems very tired but is working hard.

This past year of Occupy movements has set the stage and is tailor-made for Romney to be the 1% stooge to go against Obama. It will allow Obama to fashion himself as a populist against an effete, elite, and out-of-touch rich guy who has profited enormously off the backs of workers with whom he cannot connect or sympathize.

If Romney is the nominee, I will not vote for him and, for the first time in my adult life, will change my affiliation to Independent.

“Does Newt have a chance? I must admit the media is getting me down with the Romney is inevitable” stories.”

Don’t play in to the Krauthammer, Hume, Rove dog and pony show spin, Mangia.
If you stay here on FR, you’ll see that there is Power to the People and hope for Newt and common sense to prevail.

This isn’t merely about us Conservatives talking out of both sides of our mouths.
There is strength in unity and I especially commend Jim Rob and the other Freepers who aren’t just complaining about the assault against our liberties..but are coming up with ways to defend it.
Boycotting Drudge is one example.
I am now Drudge free and it feels great!
(His news wasn’t current anyway).

If you are a Newt supporter, go to Newt.org to find ways to get involved or send him a contribution.

I got fed up with the GOP and left it in 2008, but what is happening right now is still a punch to the gut. If Mitt Romney has done nothing else of real value - for anyone other than Mitt Romney - during his smirking swagger through life, he has unintentionally caused the GOP-e to be shown for what they are: co-conspirators in fascism. The revelations from/about Pam Bondi, the GOProud thuggery, the ease with which the MSM can accommodate the "right" Republican... all help to lift the old rock a little higher, allowing us to see that it isn't just Democrat scavengers writhing about underneath.

I confess to being naive - absurdly so, it has turned out - about just how bad things had gotten on the "good" side of the aisle. It does, however, make so much sense now: the Republican capitulations that really weren't capitulations at all (at least not to what I guess might be termed "the Republican 1%-ers"), the snatching of defeat from the jaws of victory (when "defeat" is so lucrative, you WANT Lucy to snatch the football)...

My simplistic little wish right now is that the GOP-e gets a resolute Newt Gingrich (armed with a long list of names) shoved up their collective bunghole just as hard and as fast as they are trying to insert Mitt Romney up everyone else's' fundamental aperture.

Romney is inevitable...if we let it happen.

The time is NOW to get involved. FR, Tea Party, etc. we need to take on that line in the sand.

Romney will be shredded by the community organizer.

I think that is something we need to keep in the forefront is that the 0bama regime is very good at organizing. Romney can't beat that based on his personal life. Romney is the perfect candidate to represent everything progressives hate.

I do not think Obama can win reelection it just is not going to happen. It is just a matter of by what margin the GOP wins. In my view Obama will not crack 220 no matter who the nominee is and he definitely will not win Florida.

Romney may well win the nomination but there is no way I will vote for him in the general election.

I know everyone says that will just reelect Obama. But the simple math is if Obama wins I get four more years of Obama policies. If Romney wins I get four more years of Obama policies and maybe eight more years.

Dear GOP Establishment, I will not bow to your will. I will not vote for Romney. If you continue with this scorched earth approach against conservatives candidates I will change my registration to a conservative political party.

Thank you. I am glad someone else is thinking like I am.

Yes, Romney getting the nomination is 0bama’s wet dream.

So, that means we’ve got to get in the game TODAY! And we should stop preaching to the choir on FR, we’ve got a Republic to save.

“Are you hoping for Paul to influence or lead the party?”

I was hoping for a conservative. I’ll take any conservative influence from where ever it comes.

I conclude that it’s not Romney or Newt.

Well, then we'll disagree on that point for now. I do believe the selection of the wrong GOP candidate will be fatal for our country.

I would just caution to not underestimate a battle between a Wine Sipper verses Community Organizer.

I agree the Wine Sipper will make it closer because he is not authentic or likeable. Newt is authentic and not all that likeable but he grows on the folks. Folks have had enough of Obama though.

The GOP is learning .. AND the people are learning ...

The GOP is not necesailly a red, white and blue patriotic association.

The GOP may use the 4th of July and other like symbols, but the true patriot is learning there is more to America than the political process.

The patriot is the thread that contributes to the fabric of America.

The GOP can be more patriotic, but not by foisting party men on us for our representation.

WE will choose whom we want, not the GOP nor the media.

In election after election, and on issue after issue, the Republican base has felt increasingly frustrated and disappointed by their party's leadership, who have consistently underperformed, buckled under media and opposition pressure, and squandered any mandate provided them by the American people.

There’s little need to say all this over and over again, when the whole fat, ugly truth of the GOP-E can be summed up by simply saying the name, “Trent Lott”:

Trent Lott on Tea Party candidates: “As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them”.

If he actually manages to get the nomination, you’ll see him become that “establishment” man. That’s his pattern. That’s what he will do - yet so many people here are willing to invest all their conservative hopes in a guy who has proven to be a political opportunist time and time again.

He has never been an establishment guy ....that is the primary reason he is hated. .... Erratic...yes...immoral.....yes....but establishment? don't think so.
