Assemblywoman Diane Harkey, a Republican from Dana Point, has a way with words. She calls her bill to repeal $9 billion in available state debt funding for what we call the Moonbeam Express the High Speed Rail Lemon Law.
Moonbeam or lemon, it amounts to the same thing: a taxpayer-financed boondoggle California can neither afford to build nor make operate profitably...

Trains work in areas that have the population density to support their use.
Ever been to Shanghai, HK or Tokyo ?
They make Manhattan look like the wide open spaces of Montana.
It has nothing to do with it making money. It has everything for Brown to build a monument to himself, taxpayer money be damned.
Dana Point. Sigh...one of the prettiest spots in O.C. What a shame California is going to the dogs...
A few years ago took my grandson and his friend to California for 10 days. Began our tour in San Diego and then took the train to Los Angeles area. It was great - 7 a.m. Monday morning and we were three of eight people on the train and the only ones in the business class.
In the Twentieth Century the national phallic symbols were first battleships and then aircraft carriers. But, obviously, liberals cannot take pride in aircraft carriers. Instead, they invest their national envy in high speed trains. On a personal level, its the Prius.
These people are insane
Here’s what a governor with common sense would do.
Go to Vegas, meet with the big Casino owners, the mayor and Nevada gov. Tell them that if they want to build a high speed train to Vegas from California, the state of Cal will support it by providing permits and rights of way. No California taxpayer funds for construction or operations. Suggest hotels charge $5 bucks a night per room to pay for it.
Run a train from Burbank to Barstow and Ontario to Barstow. Then Barstow to Vegas.
This is a heavily travelled corridor and private money may have an interest.
Otherwise, forget about it.
You aren’t kidding. Just today I was telling someone Tokyo made Manhattan look like a backwater.
Anyways, don’t see anything in that article about the quote in the title of this thread.
Do they work at a profit?
Or are they subsidized?
That will always be my question.
Doesn't matter if it's inter-city busing, taxi caps, trolly's, whatever...
Am I paying for someone else to get from here to there? Period.
Einstein said the definition of insanity is repeating the same action and expecting different results. Californians have elected Jerry Brown governor twice. What does that say about liberal voters in this state?
You are nuts, you know....
You should have seen it when “Killer Dana” was pumping!!
Ping.
Mayhap every high speed rail thread should be a Willie Green Memorial Thread.
A moron with a small carbon footprint is still a moron...
lol.
I wonder if ol’ Willie ever landed on an anti-FR forum or started a blog?
Box Car Willie was a hoot. After his usual Peak Oil babble he would launch into the ad hominem attacks.
That train fixation was a bit of an obsession. I could only imagine someday replacing every street in town with rails....
