Santorum Leads Close 3 Way Race In NC [Leads Romney by 6%: Without Gingrich Leads Jumps To 10%]

Santorum Leads Close 3 Way Race In NC

Rick Santorum's taken the lead in the Republican Presidential race in North Carolina with 31% to 25% for Mitt Romney and 23% for Newt Gingrich. A month ago Gingrich and Romney were tied for the lead with Santorum running 10 points behind.

Romney's staying competitive in North Carolina despite the fact that GOP voters there are pretty tepid toward him. Only 43% have a favorable opinion and an equal 43% see him negatively. That makes him less popular than both Gingrich (45/41) and Santorum (58/29).

Romney's really benefiting from Gingrich continuing to be strong enough in the South that he splits the conservative vote with Santorum, unlike in other parts of the country where conservatives are increasingly unifying around Santorum as the alternative to Romney. Among voters identifying as 'very conservative' Santorum leads Gingrich 35-32 with Romney at 19%.

If Gingrich dropped out of the race by the time North Carolina votes Santorum would have a much clearer lead with 43% to 33% for Romney and 10% for Paul. The race is still pretty fluid with only 52% of voters saying that they will definitely vote for their current choice.

However, I needed to apologize to Conservative Joy....

I believe her son is a fallen warrior.

There is no way romney beats obama. He can’t even get the base. He won’t get the base; they see him as no different than obama. I know I won’t vote for him. I’ll go third party or write in a candidate. NO ROMNEY FOR ME EVER>

Agreed. But if we get Obama, we’ll get at least 2 maybe 3 or 4 new leftwing Supreme Court justices. And that is just what he’ll do to the courts. Unfortunately, the mistake we made was in not fielding a viable conservative. Maybe there are no viable conservatives. Certainly no obviously viable conservatives.

If you don’t field a conservative, you can’t nominate one.

No worries. I was not offended. I am reminded every day that we have the freedom to share our opinions because great sacrifice has been made by so many brave young men and women. It also reminds me that we can’t take our freedom lightly. Freedom is not Free and must be cherished, protected and exercized.

The big problem is to recruit conservatives. Unfortunately, you can’t recruit conservatives to run for President, if you don’t have conservatives to choose from in lesser positions. And that means you’ve got to recruit them for the lesser positions as well.

Either that, or run ourselves. If we don’t do those things, then we can’t really blame anyone else for who we get.

Thanks for your response....I am sorry for your loss.

I would just ask you, as a mom and grandmother (I did read through your posts)...

..that you would google (because my linking skills are very lacking)....Karen Santorum's interview on CBS ----YouTube--- (it's very recent)

.. and see through her eyes and voice who she is and who her husband and children are.

Please be fair.....please listen with an open mind.

I’ve actually seen some of Newt’s supporters say they would vote for Romney over Santorum

The article indicates some of them will - they predict that if Newt drops out both Romney and Santorum will get some of those votes.

What they don't say is what happens to Newt if Rick drops out. If all of Rick's support would go to Newt, he'd have an even bigger lead over Mittens than Rick would have if Newt left.

I think the Santorum family is a perfectly fine American family. The only points I was making in response to the swipes Newt takes, is that good people have often not always had perfect lives or made perfect choices. Those whose heart is is the right place, who want to get it right perservere.

I have some policy issues that I disagree with Rick on, but mostly my concern with him is that doesn’t seem to emphasize some of the larger issues like Energy Independence as much as I believe it should be.

I don’t believe that Rick has the skills to effect a lot of the major change that needs to get done in Washington, but he would certainly be better than what we have in office now, I think Newt/Rick ticket with Newt setting the direction of the policy would be a winning combination. Then Rick could take over for eight years.

I don’t believe we will better ourselves at all by electing Romney. We are going down a very dark spiritual road with both Obama and Romney and I will vote for anyone but those two.

I appreciate your response, again.

But I ask you, if you haven't....to please listen/watch the Karen Santorum interview.

And if you will, then reread your posts regarding the Santorum family.....and just please put this in perspective when you post.

She grieves for her lost baby son....

...and her special needs daughter.

Her husband is fighting very hard for this job because of babies like Bella Santorum.....

..born with special needs and who are considered 'less worthy in the eyes of Obama and Romney.

Why would Rick drop out? He’s won 10 states, came extremely close in 4 others which he lost by slim margins due to the split vote (two of which are key states this fall), and is polling better than Newt in all the upcoming contests. He’s also polling better than Romney in some states, and polls show he does as well (if not better) than Romney against Obama. He certainly does better than Gingrich. If it was flipped, I’d say Rick should drop out, but it’s not.

If he’s doing that well, why the need to force Newt out?

Isn’t PPP a democrat outfit? They would throw that in there (about Newt)
He scares the he!! out of them. Heh He scares the he!! out of business-as-usual
Washington as well.

Some of us just don’t give up so easily. I read around a lot & it looks like more commenters on places like spectator & american thinker are starting to realize what they’re about to lose if we don’t get our act together.

GO NEWT! You’re the only one who *has* & the only one who can!

GO NEWT means give it to Romney. No wonder on Super Tuesday Carl Cameron reported on FoxNews that Team Romney is “happy” to see Gingrich continue in the race. Thanks to Gingrich, Romney took MI (by 3%) and OH (by under 1%) and now is poised to take IL by 8%-9% points as Gingrich siphons off 15% of the vote. Brilliant!

15% is an awful lot to be “siphoning off”, Steelfish. I’m sure you’re aware of the various statistics that have been written about this.
Regardless of how things stand today, we’re still not quite halfway there.
Fortunes change & Sarah’s right.

My family & I are with Newt ALL THE WAY! and then some.
