Americas religious and private philanthropic organizations are under attack from the left.
Money begets power in almost every endeavor of human life. The couple with the largest down payment receive the lowest mortgage interest rate. Those with the reputation as big tippers get the best tables and service at restaurants. The business with the healthiest cash reserve has the power to not only prosper but also to gobble up its competitors during lean times.
As true as this maxim is in the private sector, its even more prevalent in government circles. Politicians buy votes by offering free stuff to their constituents. In so doing, they expand their base to assure their own re-election. It takes money to do this, and its only available through taxes. This reality puts politicians squarely on the horns of a dilemma. They want to increase tax revenue while being perceived as keeping taxes low. Its a delicate dance, which, if performed clumsily, leads to disastrous results. Who can forget George H.W. Bushs promise, Read my lips, no new taxes, which was soon broken, leading to his defeat?

During Katrina the churches, and individuals, did far more to help than government.
I mean other than Sean Penn who single handedly save MS and LA. haha..remember him down there with his boat.
Anyhow, I didn’t see a lot of coverage of all incredible work the church orgs did down there.
If I didn’t know better I would almost conclude there was a deliberate effort made by the MSM to ignore reality or worse..create their own made up version of reality???
Boy did you ever hit the nail on the head with your comments! Thank you so much!!
Its is perfectly understandable from statist point of view.
Destroying philanthropy creates a crisis that government can exploit to further increase its power and scope.
Also, if something is provided by philanthropy, it is charity. Can’t have that. Might make the parasites feel bad about themselves. If the government provides it, they can make it a “right,” again increasing its power and scope.
Progressives? I think they mean regressives!
