Last Frontier Women Don’t Tolerate Misogynists (Sarah Palin)
Facebook.com ^ | March 24, 2012 | Sarah Palin

Posted on 03/24/2012 9:43:14 AM PDT by ScaniaBoy

Two fellow Alaskan women, Kirsten Powers and Penny Lee, penned a letter to the New York Times calling out misogynist attacks on women in public life.

They included this interesting aside: “Coincidentally we both hail from Alaska — where women are treated as equals — so perhaps our threshold for this kind of behavior is less than here in the Lower 48.”

As an Alaskan woman, I completely agree. Women up here do not tolerate the sexist stereotyping and behavior.

Up here, I’m constantly around commercial fishermen who curse like sailors, oil field workers with hardcore blue collar work ethics, tattooed-up soldiers serving on our military bases, long-haul truck drivers, motorheads, hunters and sport fishermen; and yet I don’t know anyone who talks about women the way these misogynists on TV do with their degrading comments, which includes comments mocking those with special needs.

I grew up hunting, fishing, playing sports, plowing snow, and chopping wood just like the guys. My parents raised my sisters and me to never consider gender an unequal element in anything. (In fact, today is my Dad’s birthday, and I want to give him a shout out because as a science teacher and track coach, he treated all of his students and athletes equally with respect and encouragement.) My daughters have participated on football, hockey, and wrestling teams just like the guys. We even dress like the guys at times (or they, like us) in warm camo hoodies and Carharts. It’s accepted up here because the environment is rugged and real, and our Alaskan elements are a great equalizer.

Women and men are equals in every way in the Last Frontier, and real men are not threatened by strong women. Real men don’t insult women with gross sexist comments meant to demean and objectify them.

These misogynists wouldn’t know how real men behave. I cannot imagine them working on my commercial fishing skiff in Bristol Bay, or driving our trucks to haul gear out to a remote cabin, or fueling up the float plane, or even having a tinge of grease under their fingernails which symbolizes the hard work needed to fuel the nation’s economy. And yet these are all things average Alaskan women do everyday. If these misogynists said one of their disgusting comments up here in person to an “Alaskan chick,” they would have to replace their veneered teeth.

I personally do not seek an apology from these narrow-minded men. With a full family and productive “to-do” list everyday, I just don’t have time for them. But I do feel sorry for them and for their obvious need to compensate for something that’s missing in their own lives, which compels them to belittle others in order to feel big. And I feel sorry for our culture for having to listen to them. America deserves better. I applaud Kirsten and Penny for taking a stand when too many feminists don’t speak up when the attacks are directed at their conservative sisters. And unfortunately too many men, like our president, will only defend certain women, not all women.

Just to throw some kerosene on the fire these very same veneered teethed metroboys are now posting questions on the local Alaska prospecting forums about how they have a better gold sluice box design, how they are buying aircraft and even boats to bring their new fangled wonder devices to Nome.

I see them mostly from the big cities back east, most know nothing about the seasonal situational awareness you must have in Alaska, the shipping timelines and logistics, and worse yet even with the modern day tools of the internet they are still acting like gold seekers about to climb the Chilkoot Pass such as in a Jack London novel.

I make my recommendations to a point about some gear but they don’t listen, they don’t believe what its like in Nome, they think its being deliberately told its bad to keep them out, they cannot be told by those giving sage advice, to these metro gold seekers they think there is a Motel 5 on every streetcorner, or a KOA, or a Dennies restaurant, and most believe you can drive to Nome if you have a big enough 4WD.

the Obama dynasty has created a financial end of the road mentality among most of America, the Gold Rush shows are fueling the hype and the frenzy in an unheard of fashion just short of the famous California Gold rush.

They are coming to Alaska.

And Sarah Palin will be there to greet them in one way or another.

“They are coming to Alaska.”

Not offering advice or “If I were you...” bull. Just sharing my experience -

Years ago, Massholes and New Yawkers started coming north to Vermont. Mostly we just acted neutral to them and brushed them off. They were good for a laugh. Figured they’d get tired of the winters and the work it took to live here, etc.

In the end, they didn’t adapt to our simple lifestyle or give up. They changed it. They made it like where they came from. They bought up land and used their money to attain positions on our town boards, etc.

Vermont is now a liberal/socialist bastion with little chance of ever becoming what it once was.

One More Time -- THIS IS ONE MORE REASON WHY I'M WRITING IN SARAH PALIN IN NOVEMBER!

Somebody else can settle for less. I'll have no part of that.

I demand THE BEST for America! Just because she's not yet available doesn't mean I shouldn't keep demanding The Best!

Here’s another example/proof the marxist media was focused on destroying Sarah BEFORE they even knew her record.

May 11, 2009

Mika Brzezinski:
“Exactly. Let me make this clear because this is my world and these are the people I’ve worked with for twenty years. Members of the network media elite as well as members and people who worked for the New York Times, when Sarah Palin first came on the scene and this is what they knew about her: She was a woman, she was pro-life, and she had some very, very conservative views on other issues.”

“And all I could hear from my friends in the network media elite was, “Let’s bring her down. I hope these rumors bring her down.” And at a party where there were people from the New York Times, all they would talk about is the rumors that they hoped would bring her down. They did not know her. They didn’t know anything about her. But they wanted to bring her down.”

As an Alaskan woman, I can attest to every word of this. We ARE different.

Thanks very much, newfreep. Exactly so, because their worst fear and threat, was and still remains, that Sarah Palin, would, and will be the first woman PRESIDENT.

And, many of us believe that she shall!

GOOD on you, dearest dayglored. If Romney is the GOP-E’s nominee, Sarah Palin gets my vote.

Like Sarah Palin’s vote in HER state, Newt Gingrich got my vote in my state, but I’ll never vote for Romney and I don’t care who the he// he gets as his token convervative VP.

:) (Yeaaay!)

> Like Sarah Palin’s vote in HER state, Newt Gingrich got my vote in my state,...

Up here in NY I'm registered as an independent (neither establishment party represents my values well enough for me to associate with them) so I don't get to vote in the establishment primaries... but I root for Newt to all the folks who DO make a difference in the primaries.

Ah, good, and especially good to Not Get Fooled by a VP choice. It would be tough, if Romney were brave enough to choose Sarah as VP. But I don't think we're in any danger of him being that brave.

FWIW, since I know New York State will go hard for Obummer regardless of my vote, I'd STILL write-in Sarah because that's who I believe is The Best. And I'll get a bumper sticker for the next four years that says:

"Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Sarah!"
Might have to set up a CafePress.com site for it; might get popular... :)
