Anonymous Witness Police Used Tells Orlando Station Trayvon Martin Attacked George Zimmerman
Mediaite ^ | March 24, 2012 | Frances Martel

As the investigation into the investigation of the killing of Trayvon Martin continues, new facts are beginning to surface, and the Fox affiliate in Tampa Bay found an anonymous witness who spoke to them in George Zimmerman‘s defense, saying he saw the man who was mostly the aggressor in the struggle fall on the grass, dead.

Tampa Bay’s Fox 13 reported that the witness, who agreed only to be identified as “John,” saw the struggle and it was his testimony the police used to let Zimmerman go free (John spoke to Fox 13′s Orlando Affiliate, Fox 35). His statements to the cops were instrumental because Sanford police say those screams you hear,” the anchor notes, are Zimmerman’s and not Martin’s. Says John: “When I got upstairs and looked down, the person that was on top beating up the other guy was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point.”

The police report allegedly included notes of Zimmerman’s shirt being wet and grassy on the back, a sign of struggle. What it also includes, though, according to this report, is an initial assessment of the situation as “manslaughter and unnecessarily killing to prevent an unlawful act,” according to the first police officer on the scene.

This story is far from over as the story develops and Zimmerman’s side comes up to light. Given that the witness is anonymous and the only on-the-record supporters of Zimmerman’s are his parents, his neighbor, and his lawyer, however, a reasonable explanation for his behavior appears quite elusive. The station also compiled Zimmerman’s history of 911 calls, the police report from the night of Martin’s death, and a number of other handy documents to understand the situation.

The report via Fox 13 below:

Cruising below you find that Trayvon was 60 feet from home ~ he'd apparently successfully hidden from his tracker ~ Zimmerman.

At some point we'll have a drawing showing where Zimmerman began following Martin, and where the home is that Martin was staying.

Could be quite interesting ~

Zimmerman is an overwhelmingly GERMAN surname. May be a Jew or two about with that name, but it's not considered Jewish.

ABOUT 1/4 the folks in the white pages in the Indianapolis phone director are named Zimmerman or variations on that name (which is not relevant to the situation in Florida, but there you have it).

I still get the log-in page. Do they only let you view the story once?

It works fine for me, even though I'm not signed in. However, I just saw a notice that, beginning next month, visitors will only be allowed 10 free articles rather than 20. I didn't know they were doing that. I have seen cases where a newspaper will let you view one or two articles, then make you sign in.

So, it's possible you've exceeded your free article quota, and I haven't. Try removing all your nytimes.com cookies. That will probably reset your quota.

That would suggest that Zimmerman had the gun out, possibly hoping to make an arrest without a struggle. It would also explain why Martin might have been so intent on beating Zimmerman. He thought Zimmerman was going to kill him.

I have not read an official report regarding Zimmerman's nose or his head. We have some speculative news stories about that, but nothing official.

The coroner's report ought to tell us if that's a chest wound or a back wound. Got URL?

I agree with you except that the fact that Zimmerman was at some point under attack by Martin is also supported by evidence in the form of an eyewitness and injuries to Zimmerman. Aside from that, I agree.

It was part of the statement by the NBP, since debunked by another poster.

Back about lebenteengazillion threads there's a reference to half-time.

The source is on FR.

I thought it was speculative but the game itself is NOT speculative ~ it was going on. There's a reference above to the father's story ~ read it.

PLUS ~ the mother lives in MIami. I doubt she got all the details correct when the father called her from Orlando to tell her Trayvon was dead.

“...but he was in an unauthorized area (on school property),” Martin said, declining to offer more details.”

No, we don’t know what it means. It could mean he was a thief, it could mean he was in the girls locker room, it could mean he was in the secretary’s office trying to fix his grades or a lot of other things. the point is we don’t have a clue what it means except the school didn’t think it was anything good.

Me, too. Most of the media is just repeating things they read in somebody else’s story without independently checking the facts. And when it is something so trivial and irrelevant, I can understand not checking it out. I can’t understand repeating it.

There actually are quite a few facts available, but not many make it into stories. For example, the idea that the police operator told Zimmerman not to follow but he kept going anyway. All you have to do is listen to the call for yourself to see that is not true.

Zimmer appears to have made a mistake in not getting himself arrested. He didn't do a check in at the jail where they'd noted any wounds or other problems of that sort, and looked for blood splatter.

Yes, I have seen the half-time reference repeated in many news stories, but it is factually false.

I agree about the mother. She witnessed nothing and is obviously not a source for any facts about the incident.

I have read the father’s story, which makes perfect sense to me. When my kids were younger, I fell asleep before they got home more than once. And more than once I woke up in the morning realizing I had not heard them come in, and ran to their rooms. They were always there, but I can only imagine how he felt when Trayvon was not. Nothing at all unusual about the dad’s story.

BUT...I can’t reconcile the dad’s story with the idea that there was a 13-year-old alone in the house who had been waiting for hours for his candy. That’s why I deduce there was no such boy (in the house) and I wonder where that story came from.

What used to be handled, with the teacher yelling, “get the hell out” are now grounds for suspensions and expulsions.

I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions at this point in time. Read up on zero tolerance policies, you’d be surprised how stupidly heavy-handed schools have become.

The girlfriend ~ on the lawyer's call to her. She could very well be mistaken. After all she wasn't there. At the same time she said she was on the phone with Trayvon as he was walking along during the encounter with Zimmerman. Much of her story is identical to Zimmermans.

Now, the obvious question ~ could the lawyer have connived with the girl to create a fictitious conversation after listening to the Zimmerman story? Since the 9/11 tapes had just been released by the cops there's not a lot of time to do that, so her discussion, although not yet given in court, is probably more trustworthy regarding the sequence of events than the speculation made by the professional black power establishment.

If what one post earlier in this thread appears to be true, that of Martin having gun powder on his hands, he may have been to defend himself because Zimmerman may have had his gun out.

Latest I’m hearing is Z’s Dad is Jewish, his Mom was born in Peru? Is that “Hispanic”?

Zimmerman is a former altar boy. His father is a retired magistrate judge. His mother is indeed Peruvian and used to work as an interpreter at the Prince William County Courthouse in Virginia.

Sorry I'm missing your point. If it's shown Martin has powder burns on his hands, what does that tell us other than what we already know, that they were fighting when the shooting happened?

Zimmerman went to the police station for questioning. I will be surprised if no photos were taken of his injuries and clothing. After all, a crime scene technician was assigned to the case.
