The average American car owner might be annoyed with gas prices, but despite his opinions on Obama's handling of the nation, he still can afford to drive around in a gas guzzler.
Unlike rich Norway and Denmark, where car consumption is heavily discouraged, the car producing nation of Sweden (where I live) could only be rivalled by Switzerland.
It shows in Swedish stats on car sales.
The average Swede could afford a car the average citizen of no other nation could afford.
For 16 consequtive years in a row, the 'close to luxury' Volvo V70 has been the top selling car (of three different generations) in my nation.
Top that! (However; we too buy Korean junk..)
What about Japan and Germany?

American liberals could go serious with an anti car campaign like they did with cigarettes. Of course if it worked the only vehicles on the road would be buses and trucks to deliver our goods and a loaf of bread would be $20.00 because of the tax the trucks would pay to maintain the roads that no one would use anymore.
BTW, Canuck is not a slur on the Canadians either.
Then they are going to have to change the name of these things:
You failed to say anything bearing substance about the Finns.
Was it a good idea of Stalin to shoot off 75% of his officers before invading them?
Technically they have a box.... But no ‘truck’ IMO should be called a ‘truck’ and be equipped with the luxuries they are. Kinda defeats the purpose.
That would be fine if they still made fleet vehicles that WERE actual working trucks. But they don’t. Compare a 79 F350 to a 2013 ‘fleet’ F350. Yes, It’s a FANTASTIC vehicle.
Do you want to pay $40,000 + dollars to haul dirt? Firewood? Cow poop?
That leather interior stinks up fast.
Just IMO of course, FWIW.
Okay, you’re in possession of a wider range of knowlegde of these subjects than I am.
All I know is this:

America would do good in restoring the legendary manufacture of Oldsmobile.
But unfortunately, that probably won’t happen.
Greetings to all true car lovers from Gothenburg, Sweden, home of Volvo and (close to) one million people who take pride in cars we drive!.
I fail to see what the Finns have to do with whether or not Japs is a slur. If you want my opinion on the war then the Finns kicked butt on the Russians, even though the Russians finally beat them in the end they had a he** of a time doing it.
Sure, if they got over their xenophobia enough to buy some US products.
No more racist society exists on Earth than Japan.
Jap is a slur, believe me. I live in Hawaii, my wife is local Japanese, her dad got a purple heart from his time freezing in the Italian Alps during WWII (he always said: “you can’t trust the Italians!”). If you use the word Jap here in Hawaii, I guarantee you Japanese people will take offense at it.
Right out of college my car was a used Volvo 740.
The used car salesman almost gave it to me dirt cheap as I was still starting life out of university. Then I was out looking for an apartment and I got one immediately. I eventually left that apt bldg and I asked the manager why he gave me the place.
She told me I drove a Volvo. It showed a certain ‘responsible’ trait for a young dude. The only thing I hate is was it came with a tape track and not a CD player so whenever I went on dates, the girls felt pity on me.
But I took care of that “pity” by using the backseat (wink)
>>The major reason behind this is the fact Sweden has had a major rethink and shifted its national policy from a Socialism to Capitalism mindset.
I remember reading an article about Sweden in National Geographic some time ago. I’m thinking ~15+ years, as it has probably been that long since I dropped my subscription due to their obnoxious knee-jerk Leftism on many things.
There was a comment from a Swede in that article that I always remembered. Paraphrasing, it went something like “We are better off than you are. While we may be more socialist than you, we have figured out we were going down that wrong road and have turned back, while you are still going.”
I hope we turn around soon.
Add all that to the fact they never, never apologized to us or any other country for the atrocities they committed during the war. Jap is not a slur, maybe in the minds of the Japanese in Hawaii because it reminds them of their evil past, but it is not a slur. It is a contraction of the full name.
If you say so.
I will tell that to my Japanese friends. I am sure they will agree.
Whoa there, Archie! I threw in that little fact about my father-in-law, whose parents were born in Japan, receiving the purple hear in WWII. The Japanese in Hawaii aren’t “reminded of their evil past” by the atom bomb, any more than American-born Germans would feel responsible for Hitler. Are you nuts or something?
not a big shocker: carsmade in Sweden cost less IN Sweden than outside — import taxes etc. And Volve gets tax breaks in comparison. Ditto (only more so) for Japanese cars in Japan and German cars in Germany
bears do what in the woods? No way :-) Jogi went to the loo!
well, it would be like saying Mustalainen
the Finns were lucky — they were fighting the Soviet conscription machine
