Trayvon Martin: Seminole County NAACP leader expecting charges
Bay News 9 ^ | April 10, 2012 | John W. Davis

Seminole County NAACP President Turner Clayton Jr. says he is confident George Zimmerman will be charged in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

We spoke to Clayton outside of the Allen A.M.E. Church in Sanford Tuesday afternoon, before State Attorney Angela Corey said she would hold a news conference regarding the case within 72 hours.

During the brief interview, we asked Clayton how he plans to help keep things peaceful if George Zimmerman is not arrested. However, Clayton veered the conversation in a different direction and told us he spoke with Angela Corey Monday. Clayton said he is confident an arrest in imminent.

“We want to make sure the community stays calm and at ease. Just wait for the decision from the Special Prosecutor [Angela Corey], which should be coming within a week to two weeks the most that charges will be brought against George Zimmerman,” Clayton explained.

“After the conversation yesterday [Monday] by phone, I feel very confident that she is going to go ahead and file some charges,” Clayton said.

Clayton, however, say the community wants more than just charges against Zimmerman -- they want to see permanent changes in the Sanford Police Dept.

“The community is very adamant that they want Chief Bill Lee permanently terminated, and until that actually happens it's going to continue to cause more dissention in the community,” Clayton said.

Clayton said he does not expect a celebration if George Zimmerman is charged. “It's just that they'll be more calm and relaxed that justice is prevailing in this case.”

I have a gut feeling somebody has picked up Zimmerman for the One Million dollar bounty.

He is around, I don’t think he left the country, I think something bad just happened.

Since George hasn’t been heard from since Sunday I wonder if someone already found him.

Sean Hannity said tonight on his show that he has spoken to Zimmerman(For about half an hour) did not disclose what was said. I think Zimmerman is in hiding(For obvious reason) I think unfortunately he will be charged(with something) because the DA knows these hoodlums will riot if he is not charged, sucks but it’s true. The right thing to do would be NOT to charge him, it was self defense, hoping for the best

Good! They need to charge the NAACP with inciting violence!

The right thing to do is do the right thing, let them riot, and take appropriate countermeasures.

We can't let our laws be ignored every time Al and Jesse pitch a shitfit.

I agree, its becoming now a circus of domestic terrorism.

Give a bear a cookie and he will demand a glass of milk.

I hope somebody intelligent fakes Zimmermans death so the guy can start a new life somewhere else, this won’t be settled even if they do bring him into the kangaroo courts, actually it will get worse.

Hey Im all for it, if those morons want to riot, let them riot. It’s the same threat that they made during the 2008 election, if Obama did not win they would riot, I say let the fools riot and let the cops take em out. I lived through the LA Riots so I know all about riots. If these lowlife scum want to do this, let them, and let the cops take care of them

I’m betting Corey said something along the lines of “justice will be served” or “we’ll do the right thing”.

Clayton probably took that to mean “We’ll bring charges against Zimmerman”.

There’s no sense in Corey laying out her plans to a guy who obviously can’t keep his mouth shut, and so far she has shown an admirable capacity for not vomiting forth information when it’s not called for.

She may bring charges or not, but I doubt she’d tell this character ahead of time one way or the other.

Weren't the cops nowhere to be found, at least in the critical early stages?

Maybe a better model would be armed Koreans.

If Z gets arrested, he will be murdered in jail.
He’d better run and stay ahead of the lynch mob.

I don't blame him for hiding out, maybe he decided there was a leak in the police dept, lawyers office, or elsewhere.

Many years ago I was deputized to do an undercover drug stakeout. The local sheriff's dept. was under a new sheriff appointed by the governor due to years of corruption. He couldn't trust anyone he had available in the department. Even with all the care we took my part leaked out and I had a bunch of dope pushers looking for me. I put word out that I would gladly shoot anyone who looked at me and didn't smile and the punks stopped making threats. The situation was so bad that I actually witnessed the chief deputy and his wife weighing and packaging pot on their living room coffee table.

I was sort of crazy as a young man, but as y'all know I'm calm and peaceful now!

George better be really careful who he trusts.
