Romney, as Mormon Bishop threatens woman "give up your baby or give up your God"

Many people know Presidential Mitt Romney as a Republican candidate running for President who likes to complain about President Obama. Many do not see him as a former Mormon Bishop in charge of thousands of Mormon congregants. An investigation based on interviews suggest Romney was pretty radical in his Mormon beliefs. According to a Huffington news report - as a young bishop, Romney got word that Carroll Shelton, a woman in his ward, was considering an abortion. This was Shelton's sixth pregnancy. She was in her 40s, had four teenage children and had developed “medical complications.” As the story goes Shelton’s stake president had already approved the procedure when Bishop Romney arrived at the hospital and “forcefully counseled her against it” (see: Mitt Romney Was A Mormon Bishop Before He Became A Politician. Some say demanded it using the full force of his position as Bishop within the LDS church. Peggie Hayes, a single woman with a child, was in Romney's ward when she became pregnant. She alleges that Romney threatened her with excommunication if she didn't put up the baby for adoption, Boston Globe reporters Michael Kranish and Scott Helman write in their book "The Real Romney." GIVE UP YOUR MORMON GOD "Give up your son,"was the message Hayes said she got from Romney, "or give up your God." “That is a heavy trip to lay on someone” says Pattie Cooper of Charlotte, N.C. “I worry about what he will do when he is President and the Mormons get into the White House…will he do stuff like that?”, she said. I thought Romney was pro-abortion.

To liberals, he was anti-abortion. To conservatives, he was pro-abortion. Basically, Mitt Romney is two-faced. He morphs into anything he wants to, and can be morphed into anything others want him to be.

I don’t care what your position is on Romney as a candidate, this is third-hand unsourced “information” from the Huffington Post. i.e., CRAP!

Ok, I’m no fan of Romney, but I’m not seeing anything untoward here. One would expect the same counsel from a Baptist pastor or a Catholic priest.

As Mormon, Mitt dreamed to have seven wives, just like his grand-father.

Romney worships the self-god of chaos.

This story makes perfect sense, because at its root, mromneism makes no sense.

So what is it? Do you hate mitt because he’s a pro abortion liberal or becasue he’s a pro life Mormon?

Not only that, I thought it was proven here on FR that the mormon religion does NOT condemn abortion. Nothing about this article makes any sense to me. Maybe our conclusion should be that anything on FR about mormons is crap.

To clarify my point in #5... I interpreted “give up your baby (for adoption)” as “don’t abort.”

You’re missing the point of this character assassination piece. The objective is to paint him as extreme, weird and a guy who hates “modern” women.

Utter crap.

I can’t speak for the Baptists, but as a Catholic, I have never been threatened with excommunication or damnation over anything, much less a personal decision that may go against a priest’s advise, but not the teaching of the Church.

The MSM will now trot out every negative Mormon report possible. Plus the Rats are already advertising Mitt’s flip flops. He is a total loser for our party. He can’t pull conservatives and he won’t pull independents. He is road kill in the middle.

Nevermind my last point. Abortion is clearly against the Church’s teaching. I am trying to post and work at the same time and got my brain crossed and forgot abortion was the issue.

Obama opposition research in action.

This story follows the “GOP war on women” meme. It’s no coincidence that this comes out after the Ann Romney dustup.

I came up in Catholic school in the ‘70s, and the church was unapologetically strong vs. abortion, i.e., a “mortal sin.” That said, I haven’t been Catholic for 35 years, so that doctrine has probably changed.

Frankly, while against abortion, the issue is not a big one for me.

Not at all.. I have no doubt it's an attempted hit piece; I was making my point about how one might expect other church officials to react as well.
