Ah, the wonderful benefits of a gigantic oil spill mixed with corexit on wildlife. Ok, we all know the scientists are nothing but hippie, pinko-commie running dogs. But how about the fishermen? They commies, too?

Sounds like Democrats to me.

I call BS too. From the link...

"The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has temporarily closed some local waterways to shrimping [...] in the Mississippi Sound, Mobile Bay, areas of Bon Secour, Wolf Bay, and Little Lagoon.

The closure is in response to routine shrimp sampling that indicated the average size were smaller than 68 head-on shrimp per pound. [...]

And we’d like to clarify that the closures were not due to lesions being found on shrimp as we reported earlier this weekend and Monday morning.

Could be the latest BP spill, but why not consider throwing in the pollution from the decades of places like Mobile Bay turning into major shipping ports?

Didn't Mobile Bay turn into an enormous sea transport hub almost overnight in WWII?

You posted from an Enviro-alarmist site that, if you read the link, doesn’t prove that anything is related to the Deepwater oil spill - or even that anything is actually occurring.

My family own around 5,000 acres down in the gulf and we’ve been crabbing and fishing there for close to 80+ years. A crab without claws and some fugly shrimp are nothing new — and certainly nothing new since that oil spill — the oil spill that is completely gone now, by the way.

You enviro-nuts are responsible for over-hyping the oil spill and bankrupting A LOT of good, honest fishermen for no reason. Shameful.

And what are you posting this junk science on FR for anyway?

They always sample shrimp this time of year. I think some news outlets have mixed up and altered some news reports. If you can find a state agency press release or something, good on ya, but this one is from a few weeks ago, and of course there is a reason for it:

Shrimping Waters To Be Closed This Weekend

[...] “fishermen and scientists have found horrifying creatures in the Gulf of Mexico…including blue crabs without claws, shrimp without eyes and fish with lesions.” [...]

“And it’s not just deformities that has researchers worried. It’s also the drastic decline in sea life populations, and that decline’s impact on the food chain.”

“And it’s not just the shrimp. Commercial fishermen are reporting red snapper and grouper riddled with deep lesions and covered with strange black streaks. Highly underdeveloped blue crabs are being pulled up in traps without eyes and claws…”

This is what we’re doing to God’s beautiful Creation. And instead of feeling sad about it, we’re proud of it. God should just wipe us off the planet.

Clean energy is a myth, we make a few sacrifices and nature quickly or slowly cleans things up.

God should just wipe us off the planet.

If you feel that strongly about it, you should start with yourself and set an example for the rest of us. That should certainly make the world a better place and increase the average IQ.

What a total bunch of crap.

I smell the Kenyan bastard’s friends behind this for reasons yet to be known. Maybe it is directed towards the oil industry to make them look evil.

But that’s okay. Those wonderful foot-long shrimps are moving in.

Yummy!!!

Of course we care. But the fact that accidents happen can’t stop every activity, including oil-drilling.

50% of the oil in the ocean occurs naturally. It seeps out just as it does at various spots on the earth’s surface. Nothing we can do to stop it.

We have taken great pains to ameliorate such risks & will continue to do so.

Sounds like the closing was because the shrimp are too small, not because they are grotesquely deformed, as claimed.

I wonder if the shrimp being smaller has anything to do with these footlong cannibal shrimp that are eating the other shrimp. And my question is how we end up with shrimp that are supposed to live halfway across the globe (somewhere in the Orient, I thought) in the Gulf of Mexico instead, where there isn’t the ecosystem to hold them in balance.
