Do you have an elderly person in your life whom you love, but drives you nuts...? especially when going to the grocery store? I do!
It wasn’t humorous..it was pathetic. Don’t quit your day job.
Why thank you!
You’re okay. Keep at it.
You can post the entire thing here, you know. Just sayin’...
Would that be better, or easier for people to read that way? Thanks.
LOL, not little old lady. I found it extremely realistic. I have an 89 year old MIL and there is no pleasing them.
The walking kills me! I take one step and count to 5 and wait. I try to keep her busy in a central place in the store and run around while she’s busy there.
A month ago I was at our parish hall and there was an 18 year old girl who I’ve known most of her life. She was on the verge of tears because she just couldn’t find a job and I asked, very tentatively, if she thought she could take care of an 89 year old woman for 8 hours a day and she said yes!
Halelujah, she cooks for her, takes her to the store, cleans the house and does her hair and make-up. My MIL actually has begun to like her too. Oh, sweet freedom. We don’t worry and we only have to go over on Saturdays and Sundays and maybe one or two evenings a week. I hope the girl stays for a long time.
More people will read it that way.
And you’ll be happier... just trust me about that one.
Thank you very much. Some people don’t like my honest approach, and that’s ok.
I appreciate that!
Thanks, will do :-)
You just joined a conservative site to make fun of old people?
Try DU, you sound like them.
That’s awesome that you found someone, a good caregiver. It takes a great deal of patience to care for the elderly. I was a caregiver to a 91 year old lady as well as others. I loved them dearly, but found it rather challenging.
No, I’ve actually been on the site for years, but was inactive for quite a while. I don’t just “make fun of old people.” I write humor about many of life’s everyday challenges. Fortunately, the overwhelming majority like my writing and this is a good place to publish. Sometimes people need a break from politics.
Believe me, I know it is awesome. I would never have thought to ask an 18 year old but she seems to like it.
I didn’t give her hard and fast chores except keep her fed, make sure she drinks plenty of liquids and listen to her and talk to her. All the other things she has done on her own.
LOL
Welcome (or welcome back, as the case may be).
Thank you, it’s nice to be back :-)
That is wonderful. That young lady will learn a lot from her. It will be a good experience for both. My time spent with my LOL’s was a good experience. People of that age have a great deal of wisdom about life.
I am neutral on your article, but if that is a picture of you on your website I find you very attractive:) Your writing is ok, but not my type of humor. It is well written but for some reason I didn’t find it particularly funny nor did I find it offensive as a couple of FReepers have.
Thank you for the compliment, yes that is me, that pic was taken last summer. I understand my type of humor is not for everyone. You’re unusual that you are neutral. Most either love or hate me! I see the “winning” articles on HumorPress.com and a lot of times, I don’t find those writers funny, at all, yet they keep winning. I have to be true to myself, and write in the style that is me. Thanks for reading and commenting!
Made me chuckle. I’m *only* 69, but I can foresee being this LoL. I do hope there is some nice young(er) woman who will put up with me, then.
I already need to go to 3 different grocery stores either because of price, quality or some item only stocked in one place. Yes, I am picky about produce. It is expensive. I want it to have nutrition and to last as long as possible. We old folks don’t eat a lot at one sitting and hate to throw anything out. I also have one of those purses with a multitude of pockets. It beats digging through all my other stuff to find the important things. It becomes more and more difficult remembering which pocket holds what. I do walk quickly, still, but those monthly marathon shopping trips are already becoming exhausting. That is why I do them once a month.
I’m happy to hear that busy young(er) women appreciate good cooking. I’m pretty sure that will be my major form of repayment when my last days are here, as well.
Aww, you are so sweet! I hope that people took the humor from this article and did not take it as “hating” older people. It was just a realistic look at being with the elderly. I say things most people think, but won’t say.
I love my Little Old Ladies, I truly do. I have gotten them flowers, candy, and cards on their birthdays, have cried when they are sad, have listened when they are upset, and have comforted them when they needed it. I love my experiences with the elderly and wouldn’t trade it for anything!
I appreciate your reading and commenting. This was not mean spirited, as some have thought. Like I said, I write what people are thinking but wont’ say. Still love you, though!
