GOP Opens 12-Point Lead in WI Senate Race

With the recall election facing sitting Governor Scott Walker heating up, the Republican base appears to be backing their candidates. Walker has opened up a five point lead, according to recent polling, and even received more primary votes than the top two Democratic candidates combined.

The Republican Party may have some thinking to do about the race for President in that state later this year, but it appears that the race for Senate is getting better. Former Governor Tommy Thompson appears to be running away with the race for an open Senate seat. This comes after incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold was defeated in 2010.

This poll comes to us from Rasmussen and shows Thompson leading his Democratic opponent Tammy Baldwin.

Tammy Baldwin is a very divisive Rep. from WI. And it is NOT a given that Tommy Thompson will be our candidate. There are some very good people that we have to choose from like Eric Hovde, Fitzgerald and Tommy Thompson.

Tommy is the GOPe choice for us. He was governor, of course here, started out good, but then headed left. Has gone to DC and is older now. We might want to choose another younger Conservative guy just like Sen. Ron Johnson, who we help defeat Russ Feingold.

Excellent news on the poll, though.

I like Tommy Thompson a lot. He was actually my first choice for president in 2008, but he never got any traction.

I believe he will be 71 years old when the next session of congress starts, but that is still relatively young compared to some of the sitting senators.

Is Wisconsin having another primary to select U.S. Senate nominees? If so, then when?

Union: An extortionist labor organization which existed in the United States from the 1930’s until 2012. Unions imploded when they tried and failed to take out Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in a recall election in their last-ditch battle for survival. After Walker won his election, other states passed similar reforms one by one, which caused their funding to try up almost overnight.

In 2010, WEAC salaries surged by $1 million; brass top $200k

The Wisconsin Education Association Council continued to boast a robust financial bottom line in its latest reported fiscal year, with wages and benefits for union staff employees in 2010 surging by nearly a million dollars over the fiscal year ending in 2009.

The organization’s net assets rose substantially as well, jumping from $15,301,436 to $16,142,325, a gain of 5.5 percent.

The figures are gleaned from WEAC’s 2009 Form 990 filing with the Internal Revenue Service for the year ending Aug. 31, 2010. It is the latest filing.

All totaled, WEAC’s revenue for 2010 slipped just slightly from the previous year. The union took in $25,102,225 compared to $25,480,973 in 2009. Of the 2010 total, $23,322,957 came from union dues, also down a little from 2009’s take of more than $23.4 million.

According to the IRS documents, the union mustered $1,543,455 from the National Education Association last year, up by more than $100,000 from the NEA’s 2009 addition of $1,419,819.

The revenue dip occurred mostly in the union’s investments. WEAC had $367,482 in investment income in 2009 but only $42,256 in 2010.
