Two New York legislators have taken a page from the playbook of aspiring internet regulator Joe Lieberman by sponsoring a bill which would make the posting of anonymous comments illegal. The bill written by Republican State Senators Dean Murray and Thomas O’Mara states:
“A web site administrator upon request shall remove any comments posted on his or her web site by an anonymous poster unless such anonymous poster agrees to attach his…name to the post and confirms that his…IP address, legal name and home address are accurate. All web site administrators shall have a contact number or e-mail address for such removal requests clearly visible in any sections where comments are posted.” (1)

Add another lawsuit to the SCOTUS docket. Are they going to also pass a law that you must state your full name and Social Security number before talking to someone on the street? If the government would stop threatening to sodomize us perhaps we wouldn’t see a need to post anonymously. Time to go feed my two beloved war horses, Nelson and Blueskin.

Not sure what is to be accomplished from legislation like this, but I know that if it passes, I will be spending much less time at work (NYC) on the internet.

You’ll need an “ID” to post on the internet but voting...well, anonymity is OK there?
This would have made the Federalist Papers illegal. “Publius” was anonymous at the time.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It does not say "free speech only by the fully identified and certified".
And I could give a rip if anyone, politician or otherwise, can come up with some kind of rationale for his/her desire to abridge speech.
The freedom is clear.
Okay. Let’s also include the same information about the person (or persons) requesting that the anonymous poster’s personal information be published along with their justification for the request.
Oh, and let’s also make the requester responsible for any counteractions (bullying, etc.) that occur to the anonymous poster after the publication of the information.
I mean what’s good for the goose should be good for the gander, too. N’est pas?
The “liberals” dont like anyone mocking their PC Dogma and getting away with it.They can enforce their PC Dogma on certain jobs but the freedom of speech on the internet galls them greatly.
People who post “politically incorrect” opinions on their face book accounts, where they can be identified , can be fired from their jobs, like the South Florida Fireman, who gave his opinion on Trayvon Martin.
This is just an effort to squelch political speech through out the internet that the “liberal” powers that be dont approve of.

The true purpose of the act is to suppress political dissent by having the ability to retaliate against the dissenters.
Big Brother knows who you and I and all the rest of us are and always has. What they want to do is expose everyone to retaliation from every nutcase out there who doesn’t like what we’re saying. Big Brother doesn’t need to get its hands dirty when ACORN, MoveOn.org and Media Matters zombies can take care of it.
If this new law is approved, will we then also have the LEGAL RIGHT to proclaim that we MISSPOKE, absolving us of any and all legal claims, like JACKSON, SHARPTON, the MSM, and all our politicians have?
So web sites have to have more verification than voter registrars?
Not only that, but if you vote for a (D) candidate, you are allowed to vote multiple times.
