A Second Term Will Be Terminal: Another four years and Argentina will be crying for us
The American Spectator ^ | July 12, 2012 | Peter Ferrara

Posted on 07/12/2012 11:12:10 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

With a second term for Obama, the world-leading America we have known and hoped to leave to our children will be gone. Last Friday's jobs report confirms that Obama is well on his way to transforming America into a third world country, with declining living standards and perpetual economic stagnation.

Argentina enjoyed the world's fourth highest per capita GDP in 1929, on par with America at the time. But then the nation lost its way in embracing a leftist, union allied government, which took control of the economy and imposed wildly irresponsible taxes, spending, deficits, and debt. After World War II, the hugely popular Juan Peron came to power and institutionalized the madness. It has been all downhill for Argentina ever since. Do you recognize the pattern?

Today, Argentina ranks 53rd in the world in per capita GDP, according to the International Monetary Fund, 57th in the CIA World Factbook, at a level less than one third that of America. But its national debt at 51% of GDP is actually less than that of the United States under the Obama administration, where we are rocketing towards 100% of GDP by the end of this year, and 200% in 25 years, according to CBO.

The Worst Economic Recovery Since the Great Depression: Confirmed

Last Friday's jobs report indicated the most commonly cited U3 unemployment rate remains stuck at 8.2%. That makes 41 straight months of unemployment over 8%, which the Joint Economic Committee of Congress confirms is the worst recovery from a recession since the Great Depression almost 75 years ago. The total number of Americans unemployed actually rose over the last 3 months by 76,000, 54 months after the recession started, and 3 years after it was supposedly over...

So you are voting for Obama, great.

I am not voting for Obama; to claim that my vote being for neither Obama nor Romney is in actuality for Obama is to assert that my vote does not matter.
And if that be the case then you, and any other person, have no business being upset over my vote, precisely because it doesn't matter.

No wonder we are screwed beyond repair.

Bah! We are screwed not because of an idiot in the white house, but because of a nation that disregards the function of government:
#1 -- To protect from external threat (invasion, famine, etc).
#2 -- To promote justice.

The problem we have today is that we have a government which actively promotes injustice, and takes no thought for protecting from invasion [AZ] or famine [biofuel mandate]. Further, any action so much as expressing dissatisfaction is fast becoming "promoting terrorism" or some such bilge; and any actioon taken to correct such is de facto terrorism [read the DHS Right-wing terrorism definitions].

Like Rush said, you are beyond words out of your mind.

Really? I don't see you actually refuting any of my statements, nor even disagreeing with the sentiments; only a brushing off because I refuse to play Morton's Fork.

If you think the nation is already irreparably harmed, then why bother to vote? Just for fun?

Because it may be that I am wrong.
Because it may be that God may yet work miracles on our behalf.
Because it is one of the little things that I can do.

If I thought the fat lady already sang her song, I would log off Free Republic and not give voting or politics a second thought. I mean, why bother?

See the above.

Story time:
There once was a man who, walking along came to an ant laying on his back. The man asked the ant what he was doing, and the ant replied that he'd heard that the sky was falling and the ant intended to catch the sky and hold it up. The man, shocked, asked why the little ant would try such a thing and the ant replied "I do what I can."

IOW, your smallness, or the inevitability of some evil, is no justification to simply do nothing.

Your fringe 1%- vote DOES NOT MATTER this election cycle since there is no third party challenger with even a hint of a chance of winning or even getting a plurality of the vote.

You are voting for a spoiler to Obama and indirectly for Obama himself since only mittens or obama is going to be the potus.

That is the reality of the situation whether you want to admit it or not.

At least some people here are at least honest enough to admit they want obama over mittens. Others make all sorts of excuses and contortions to convince themselves that they are not helping obama, but the fact is obama loves your kind beyond words.

Your fringe 1%- vote DOES NOT MATTER this election cycle since there is no third party challenger with even a hint of a chance of winning or even getting a plurality of the vote.

But again, that is not reason for me to vote against my conscience.

You are voting for a spoiler to Obama and indirectly for Obama himself since only mittens or obama is going to be the potus.

Irreverent. I believe that the outcome of a Romney presidency will be much the same as the outcome of another Obama term; so then why should I help "more of the same"?

That is the reality of the situation whether you want to admit it or not.

Maybe you could take a look at my Morton's Fork diagram, I see the situation perfectly: if Obama is president socialism will be implemented, and if Romney is elected then socialism will be implemented.

Again, I refuse to vote for a socialist.

At least some people here are at least honest enough to admit they want obama over mittens. Others make all sorts of excuses and contortions to convince themselves that they are not helping obama, but the fact is obama loves your kind beyond words.

I am making no excuses, nor am I contorting anything. I have laid out my reasoning plainly and you are throwing a temper-tantrum because I won't vote for your guy.

If the GOP wanted my vote they would have anointed someone not a socialist. Obviously the GOP, as a party, is comfortable enough with current policies as to select and anoint someone in whom there is no discernible difference than Obama. Both promote the murder that is abortion, both wish to implement socialism, both are anti civilian weapon-ownership, both are for big and invasive government, and neither will remedy the injustices endorsed, perpetrated, and/or perpetuated by the US government.

Ah, so my "not a socialist" requirement means "has been canonized"?
Is it really that hard to select a candidate that is "not a socialist"?

And you call me insane and out of touch with reality? Ha!

Yes. Since no one even decided to run who suits your personal agenda - there was never any chance of you getting behind anyone vs obama. Even Sarah gets it by now, as does rush, levin, santorum, newt, perry, bachmann, etc.

So tell me again who you wanted to win in the primary that actually ran who meets your 100/100 test?

What the hell are you talking about!? Plenty of people fitting my qualification ran: Newt, Paul, Johnson, etc.

there was never any chance of you getting behind anyone vs obama.

Why should there be? I want someone who will be good for America, not someone whose best-we-can-hope-for (and a vanishingly infinitesimal hope, at that) is that he won't make things any worse?

If that's your thinking, then I gotta say, it's perfectly suited for Obamacare. After all, the best we can hope for under it is not any worse than England, Canada, etc.

Even Sarah gets it by now, as does rush, levin, santorum, newt, perry, bachmann, etc.

And none of them will be with me forever, as my conscience, should be.

So tell me again who you wanted to win in the primary that actually ran who meets your 100/100 test?

I'd have actually liked Gary Johnson. (He did run, but wasn't one of the popular kids.)
Hell, I'd have been OK with Ron Paul; at least then the Republican party could say "we're offering something radically different than the Democrats."

I voted for Ron Paul in the primary and took a lot of flack for it.

I detest Romney and don’t trust him, but Obama simply has to go.

I detest Romney and don't trust him... so why should I vote for him?
People seem to be intent on misunderstanding my position; I'm not willing to vote against someone anymore, I'm willing to vote for someone though.

Romney has nothing that I'm for; same as Obama, just because one is horrid doesn't mean the other won't be. -- I'm done voting against someone. McCain was the last time.

Hell, I'd be running myself if I were old enough because I think that I, with jack-shit in the realm of "success", would do a better job than that guy.

Obama = 100% chance of disaster

Romney = 50-75% chance disaster.

I am voting for the 25% chance he is not, it is what it is.

Obama has to go. My conscience tells me to do everything to oust the communist traitor and neo-jhidist in office.

Its not about Romney - its about getting the thug sent back to the streets of chicago.

Romney = 50-75% chance disaster.

You're very optimistic.
I'd peg Romney at 99.988% chance of disaster; a 00.01% chance of a manageable cluster-f***, and a 00.002% chance of "nothing terrible."

The sad truth is that if Romney gets the WH then, being aided and abetted by the Leftists, while the Republican-party is lulled into a "he's one of us" sense of safety he will do terrible things to us.

The whole waiver solution/idea is a good example: it does nothing to address the problem that the monstrosity is a law and removes it from sight for a time. I have no doubt that Romney, or some future President, would rescind the waivers (or threaten to) in order to blackmail states into compliance.

Another "dirty trick" they could do is run a campeign of non-enforcement on the mandate, then when huge swaths of people are failing to qualify reveal that their non-payment of the mandate has rendered them felons. Now, but for the grace of government, you must receive the government's benediction and enjoy what used to be rights: voting, firearms, etc. Fail to "play-ball" and wham! you're a second-class citizen.

If you think it can't happen here then please take a moment to think about everything that's already happened in the past 16-, 8-, 4-, 2-, 1-year. It's through dirty tricks like this that they get their foot in the door, and then they never, ever leave. The Rs and Ds have played us but good; being really just a ratchet to implement this twisted society: the Ds tightening thing up and the Rs providing the slip to allow another go-`round.
