Atheists Bash Prayer For Grieving Colorado Families
The Christian Diarist ^ | July 21, 2012 | JP

Have the atheists no decency, even in a time of national mourning?

No sooner had President Obama offered sympathy to the families of those killed or injured in yesterday murderous rampage at a suburban Denver movie theater – “May the Lord bring them comfort and healing in the hard days to come,” he said – before he found himself under attack by an atheist group.

By invoking the Lord, asserted Tom Flynn, director of an outfit that calls itself the Center for Secular Humanism, the president sent “a message of exclusion to other religions who don’t call their god ‘Lord’ and to non-religious Americans.”

Of course, Flynn couldn’t care less if religious folk who are neither Christians nor Jews were offended that Obama mentioned the Lord. He and his fellow “secular humanists” simply doesn’t want the president to acknowledge either God or the Son of God in his public pronouncements.

It doesn’t matter to Flynn and his fellow atheists that 92 percent of Americans believe in God, according to a 2011 Gallup Poll. It doesn’t matter to the godless wretches that 75 percent of Americans are Christians.

I’m sure most of that 92 percent had no problem with the president offering a prayer for the grieving families in Colorado. And I’m sure most of that 75 percent was untroubled that the president referenced the Lord.

Yet, atheists like Flynn insist that any public prayer under any circumstances is a constitutional violation of the First Amendment’s so-called “Separation Clause.”

And that any mention of the Lord, which is commonly associated with Christianity and Judaism, is a constitutional violation of the First Amendment’s so-called “Establishment Clause.”

Flynn’s argument is based on the modernist misreading of the First Amendment; a revisionist take on the original intent of this nation’s founders, almost all of whom happen to be Christians.

While they forbade the establishment of a national religion, to which every American would be expected to adhere, they never intended to evict religion from the public square.

They would have no problem with the president praying for the families who lost a loved one in yesterday’s massacre in Colorado.

And, having enacted a Constitution that refers to “the Year of our Lord,” they almost certainly wouldn’t object to his invocation of the Lord.

I tremble for our country if the President of the United States is forbidden to pray for a grieving community in a time of tragedy.

I don't know of any religion that would be offended by referring to its deity as 'Lord.'

Humanists aren’t technically atheists. They’re very similar to Satanists . . .

Tom Flynn sounds like an ass. He doesn’t speak for me. And the President has 1st amendment rights just like any other American. Suggesting that a theist President should not publicly express prayer is just dumb.

Would it be accurate to say that Humanists are basically Hellenists?

How so? There are two Hellenistic schools of philosophy mentioned in Acts 17, for example: Epicureans and Stoics. Neither of them advocated what these so-called “humanists” are herein advocating; some were dismissive while others were open to hearing Paul’s doctrine, but not a single one was openly hostile and/or called for suppressing Paul.

News Flash for ‘Tom’:

I’m the self-appointed head supreme noble ruler of the newly established ‘We Honestly Don’t Give A Rat’s Ass’ movement. Our only goal is to denigrate, humiliate, offend and generally poke fun at morons like you. Have a nice day.

.
(1) Notice that Tom Flynn recognizes the Lord.

(2) Regardless of what he says now he will vote Obama — that’s the nature of the Beast (no pun intended).

A President can pray whenever he wants to pray. Athieists have no power over the President.

Atheists are making big fools of themselves and killing their own credibility. It is good to highlight them shouting down prayers in tragic events like this. It shows their aggressive disrespectful and amoral mindset. They will come to be viewed as hateful harassers like those despised kooks to protest military funerals and people will dismiss their ranting and raving.

The words "lord" and "god" are common English nouns. In fact, there are hundreds of Lords trotting around the UK right now. Abd thousands of gods are worshipped in India.

1 Cor. 8 "For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)"

You may believe in only One True God and Lord. But others may use the terms to refer to a different Person (or person).

In fact Muslims do refer to Allah as Lord: "Thy Lord is self-sufficient, full of Mercy: if it were God's will, God could destroy you, and in your place appoint whom God will as your successors, even as God raised you up from the posterity of other people." — Qur'an, Sura 6

Not quite; the word translated “Lord” from Arabic in English Korans is the word “rabb”, which is cognate with Hebrew “rab”, meaning “master” or ”great one”. From the Bible, words translated “Lord” are “Adonai” (implies fatherhood) and of course the tetragrammaton (which means the one who exists by his own power; rendered usually as “LORD”).

Mr. Flynn, I give you my wish. I wish that you may find the Lord your G-d now. He will bless you abundantly, and give you peace. His love will give you comfort, and knowing His Son will give you salvation.

What is salvation you may ask, Mr. Flynn. You will have a meeting with the Lord one day. No matter how you dress, or what you may think, this final interview will determine where you spend eternity. Mr. Flynn, eternity is a very long time...

Fine. We are, however, using the English language.

"This word means in general one with power and authority, a master or ruler...The word is used for anyone whom it was desired to address deferentially" Cruden's Complete Concordance to the Bible, revised edition, 1992, "Lord", p.390

Wiki:

"Lord" is used as a title of deference for various gods or deities. The earliest recorded use of Lord in the English language in a religious context was by English Bible translators such as Bede. It was widely used in the King James Bible translated in the 17th century.

Islam: The English term Lord is often used to translate the Arabic term rabb, used with respect to Allah.

Hinduism: In Hindu theology, The Svayam Bhagavan may refer to the concept of the Absolute representation of the monotheistic God. Another name used more commonly used in Hindu theology is Ishvara, meaning "The Lord", the personal god consisting of the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

Semitic religions: Other deities given corresponding appellations to "Lord" include:

Baal, or Hadad, among the Caananites and most pre-monotheistic religion Semites was "The Lord" with whom only priests were allowed to speak. References to Baal in the Hebrew Bible, such as the prophet Elijah's confrontation with Baal's priests, usually correspond to local gods rather than to Hadad.

Bel meaning 'Lord' is a common title of the Babylonian deity Marduk.

En meaning 'Lord' as in Sumerian deities Enki and Enlil.

Judaism: the Hebrew name YHWH (the Tetragrammaton) is usually rendered "Template:The LORD" in English language Old Testament bibles.[9][10] Following practice in spoken Hebrew, the complete Septuagint mainly used the Greek word Kyrios (Greek: Κύριος, meaning 'lord') to translate YHWH.

Buddhism: it refers to the Buddha and in Jainism to the Mahavira.

Nahuatl: the word 'Ahau' is translated as 'Lord' in reference to Aztec deities.

Classical Greece: The name of the Greek god Adonis is regarded by many as a cognate of the Hebrew word for "lord", Adonai.

Mormonism: it is believed that Jesus Christ was the YHVH (Jehovah) of the Old Testament in his pre-mortal existence, and since that name is translated "The Lord" in the King James Bible, in Mormonism "The Lord" refers to Jesus Christ, while Elohim, the being that created the cosmos, is referred to as "God". (See Mormon cosmology for references)

Which is pretty much my point. No religion that I'm aware of would be offended by having its deity referred to as Lord.

Wiki again: According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the etymology of the word can be traced back to the Old English word hlāford which originated from hlāfweard meaning 'bread keeper' or 'loaf-ward', reflecting the Germanic tribal custom of a chieftain providing food for his followers

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

What I meant is that Humanists basically want to be God, and thus they can have none before them.

What would Atheists know about how members of other religions feel anyway? AND, what other religions allow Atheists to speak for them?

I think this puke is as delusional as the shooter ~ might be time to have someone in authority look into this problem of his.
