Let's Ban Doctors, Cars, and Knives before We Ban AK-47s

Suddenly, Barack Obama wants to ban AK-47 “assault” weapons because they belong only on “the battlefield of war,” even though the LEGAL AK-47s in the U.S. are dressed-up 22-caliber semi-automatic rifles NOT used in war. New York's Nanny Mayor Mike Bloomberg wants America’s police to go on strike until the federal government adopts stricter gun laws, although I would expect that if his own security police went on strike he’d become a little nervous. Lanny Davis, former special counsel to Bill Clinton, told Sean Hannity on the radio Tuesday that the federal government should be tracking the purchase of weapons and ammunition to identify “disturbing trends” … you know, like being prepared for the country to fall apart or Barack Obama to join the UN in trying to ban weapons.

Let’s look at some facts about gun deaths in this country, facts the left-wing gun-grabbing fascists among us don’t include in their narrative -- because facts don’t fit what they hope to achieve.

Uhh..while there are some AK-like rifles in .22 (notably by GSG), the typical AK caliber is 7.62x39. This round is comparable in power to a 30-30 deer rifle (Winchester Model 94, others).

- 31,000 gun deaths in a year
- almost 19,000 of those were suicides
- of the 12,000 other gun deaths, 80 % are Gang related.
- so, basically 2,400 gun deaths (that we care about)

- less than 3 % of all legally purchased firearms are ever used in a crime.

We DO NOT have a gun problem. We DO have a criminal misrepresentation of the truth to achieve a unconstitutional objective with the full support of our elected representatives and a complicit media problem.

Funny part of the story is you can buy and own so-called assault firearms in Russia and Ukraine there they are made.

Here is a Russian gunshop you can order online:

AK-47:

AK74 is 22 cal, the 5.45x39 round it uses is similar performing to our 22 cal 5.56 round used in AR15 and similar popular sporting/defense rifles

Your argument is not valid about Drs. and cars, but I get your point. Here is a better way to look at it. In the last 100 years there have been between 84 and 98 million people killed BECAUSE of gun control. History has proven that when government takes guns from people those people tend to get killed by government.

While technically in the .22 caliber center fire rifle family, the .223 Remington (5.56mm) is almost never refered to as a “.22”. That is reserved for the rimfire family of rounds (.22LR and .22 mag).

The Russian 5.45mm round is just called that, and makes up a miniscule proportion of AK’s in this country. Mostly because the ammo is limited to surplus.

I agree with the basic premise of this story, I just think they should keep their facts straight. It’d be like me calling the 1911 a 9mm handgun. Possible, but not typical.

Don't forget baseball bats, motorcycles, chainsaws, and bricks, and above all...currupt politicians!! Of course, if we banned all currupt politicians, there wouldn't be anybody in Washington, D.C.

Why don’t we just ban Self-defense denial (gun-free) zones?

If you can use it for an Assault, it’s an Assault Weapon.

It’s an easy way for the gun-grabbers to get around that pesky 2nd amendment – just label firearms as something else vague and voila!

No more pesky 2nd amendment.

the 5.45 round has been greatly gaining in popularity due to the cost of it. In fact there are several manufacturers now chambering AR15s in it. Before my tragic boating accident I’d bought 1080 round cases of it for ~10c/round.

***It’d be like me calling the 1911 a 9mm handgun.***

The 1911 was made in 9 mm many years ago. I used to have a Colt 1911 9 mm. Didn’t even have it long enough to fire it.

True, but still not relevant for the story. The article doesn't say AK or AK-74, but clearly AK-47.

The military 5.45x39 is a great round, and has a reputation for deadliness. You're still limited to surplus (note the 1080 round case) and the vagaries of import law. If domestic manufacturers pick it up, then that will kill the savings.

You can get a 1911 in 9mm today (STI, Dan Wesson), but that wasn't the point of the example.

Calling on police not to protect public is an excellent reason to arm up.

It would clearly demonstrate no one can depend on their government overseers for protection.
