Yes, the past tense is operative for me as well. Our “crunchy” family opused loudly during Sunday School one day and stormed out forever. I was sick that day and missed it.

Did Savonarola wear that cowl to hide frizzy hair?

And one day, like clockwork, in a year and a half to three years, for no apparent reason, the result of no clever interpretation or insight from me, he walks in completely changed - a man. He got it. [ . . . ]we say our goodbyes like two men, with a solid handshake and a solid look in the eye.
Too bad Woody Allen didn't pick you office decades ago. He could have saved himself a lot of money and lots of other people much grief and misery.

Nah, that's what the tonsure is for.

Whenever I see a boy running ahead of his mother, I whisper “don’t stop; keep running.” His instincts are good. He just needs encouragement.

I wish there was tape. I heard that it got pretty heated.
Why a liberal couple came to a little down-home fire-breathing Baptist church in the first place was beyond me.

Maybe if he came back as a pigeon, he could poop on her head.

You make sense. This is one strange article.
I wouldn't assume the mother actually believes in reincarnation or wants her son to come back as an animal or that she's scarred him for life by saying something that implies that he will die some day.
There is maybe a "passive-aggressive" kind of edge to her comment, but tired parents do what they can to make their children a little more thoughtful.
The whole tribal "them against us" thing gives people a chance to unload against the presumed hippy, New Age mother, and that explains what's going on.

You're probably right. The article starts by describing "a frizzy-haired mother with a lefty vibe", which immediately pits us against her. *shrug*

Parents say lots of things without thinking. Maybe the mother was simply exasperated with her childs antics and had already told him not to do it before the author came along. Maybe she was tired and the boy was being a little b*stard; Kids do that, you know. Then again, maybe she is an idiot and a tree hugging nutbag. Maybe its all of these at once. I wasnt there so its hard to say.
MAYBE you’re an idiot.

It’s worse than that. Many are simply shallow mimics hoping for happiness by parenting. Their children are an accoutrement, not living persons.

Sure - there are a few incompetent parents that aren’t liberals. But being liberal almost assures you that you will be incompetent as a parent.

Yea, we all know (and most work with) that type.

LOL. That is a funny ad, but she sounds like a pretty good mother. Preferable to the overweight white trashers feeding their kids crap food and sending them to public school. Don’t see much problem with engaged parents.
To: dagogo redux
The damage parents do. It’s a blessing of being the children of God that lets us undo it. I’m thankful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ and good people like you.
