...it does look like Mitt’s entitled to an “I told you so” moment if he wants one.
In the first place, he was only acknowledging the well publicized fact that:
Security arrangements were thrown into chaos weeks before the opening ceremony when private security contractor G4S acknowledged it would not be able to provide all the guards it had promised. Thousands of soldiers, sailors and air force personnel — some just back from Afghanistan — had to be drafted in to plug the Olympic security gaps.
And then of course there was that little security snafu involving the “lady in red” who just walked right in and joined the the Indian delegation in blue and gold during the opening ceremonies.
David Cameron, feeling like a spurned relative of some sort, responded to Mitt’s perceived criticism by blasting back:
“We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest most active bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.”
So you would think that holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest most active bustling cities anywhere in the world, they wouldn’t have any trouble whatsoever getting butts in the seats, would you?
...Butt here’s something funny: I was actually at Mitt’s Olympics in Salt Lake back in 2002!...
As a spectator, not a participant. Mitt’s games were in the “middle of nowhere” in the middle of a freezing cold winter, with snow and ice all over the mountain roads that connected multiple venues up to 60 miles apart. And you know what? No empty seats...

They’ve only got snow sports, tracked sports and rink sports in the winter olympics and 15-20 events. The venues are smaller and the crowds are smaller.
35 sports and about 400 events for the summer olympics, with bigger and more venues.
Utah is way cheaper than the UK

Then compare it to Atlanta. The Atlanta Olympics had more tickets available than the two previous Olympics combined! (Granted, 32 baseball games in a 50,000 seat stadium skewed the numbers a bit.) But Europe hated the Atlanta Olympics. All those gross patriotic, jingoistic middle- and lower-class Americans filling the stadiums with their chants of “U-S-A!”
The funny thing is that despite the Olympics being held in the Eastern time zone, NBC still abused the tape delay. I had the results of the women’s gymnastics team final, including press reports, on my work computer in California before my parents saw the Kerri Strug vault on TV in NJ. I’m pretty sure the gymnastics took place in the late afternoon, so NBC delayed the broadcast for prime time.
A lot of these events are running with the stands no more than 1/4 to 1/3 full. That’s not a matter of bigger venues, that’s people not showing up in droves. There was a lot of weirdness in how they handled ticket sales, left a lot of annoyed people.
The primary in person audience for the Olympics has always been people from that country and then nearby countries. So nobody really expected you to travel for this one, the audience is supposed to be Brits and the French, maybe some of the rest of the EU. But some well publicized bad decisions annoyed a lot of people away from it though.
Duh!!!!The MSM bashed Romney when he said the London Olympics had some problems. Maybe he knew what he was talking about.
The MSM is STILL bashing him...ABC “News” is still today running a segment about “Romney’s ‘gaff’ in London”. With no other point of view allowed in the report...ABC says it’s a given that Romney is “gaffing” his way through Europe and Israel.
Pretty objective...huh?
Some of the events.
The press has overblown the story to make it sound like all the events are struggling. As a Brit who can watch every event via about 40 BBC digital channels and 3 ‘Eurosport TV’ channels, I can assure you that most of the events are in fact full.
All the problems, bar the G4S security issue, have been minor, even trivial problems.
Every clip I’ve seen empty seats are visible. Some many, some a few, but full is not the situation. Now admittedly I deliberately avoid many of the most popular Olympic events, so I’m generally seeing the fringe stuff. But still usually even those tend towards full, definitely more full than we’re seeing here.
