The Most Often Forgotten Survival Preparations
SHTF Plan ^ | 7/31/12 | Brandon Smith

Posted on 07/31/2012 3:47:47 PM PDT by Kartographer

Sadly, having a stockpile of food, weapons, and some slick tactical gear is not enough to ensure a high likelihood of survival, at least not in any of the social collapses that have occurred in the past century around the world. It’s a start, but only just…

There are a number of detrimental weakness to the survivalist movement and considerable holes in prepper knowledge that must be addressed now while we have the time and relative safety to do so. The greatest threat to the common survivalist is not economic collapse, roving bandits, Blackwater mercenaries, or predator drones; those dangers are a piece of cake compared to the threat of an overblown ego, which will get a man killed faster than the most sophisticated smart bomb. If we cannot accept that there is always more to learn, and room to improve, we have been defeated before we have begun.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I'll manage just fine. Not my first rodeo. I'll eat better than 80% of Americans. I don't want help unless I've got a spurting artery, or have to move the grand piano. ;)

Okay, how about:

Mani/pedi kit
MP3 player with World music
Birkenstocks (for foraging missions)

and for the teens:

Directions to Hot Topic loaded onto iPhone
Band T-shirts
Skinny girl jeans (for boys)
Black hair dye

If you really want to try some survival living, eat half as much as you normally would. To stretch supplies.

Those teens won't need that stuff if I get ahold of 'em. Ain't required to pull a plow.

Do you know how to make a kitten pull a plow? Get a big whip and aim lower.

Thank you. Zero cash flow for 2 months isn't that bad, if you have a paid off house, a garden, and food for a year. I barter technical and network expertise for phone and internet service... Just living life, with it's ups and downs.

Green cash....and then more green cash.....and then some more.

Aside...all you'd ever find at a Starbucks would be leftists, so those sh*tholes should be under the "avoid at all costs" category........you'd find yourself preached and then mooched to death by the leftists that frequent the chain.

Seriously, though -- having been on the "wrong side" of the Newhall Pass after the Northridge earthquake, wifey and I learned quicklike that when power is out for extended periods, green money still rubs palms the same way with Punjab down at the convenience store. Show up with a credit card, and you're SOL.

I guarantee you that Punjab's gonna be at his store, abacus or pocket calculator in hand......Home Depot, Walmart, Target, chain grocery stores, gas stations will be shuttered.

I ran into that with Texas rolling black outs (hate you, Ercot, for pushing wind power while everyone else keeps moving here, essentially lowering power production).
Power out. Swipe cards not working. ATM line out the door. Card carriers are going nuts. I shout out, “I can pay with cash.” I get to go to front of the line. I pay for gas with a 20. I’m out, while everyone else is sweltering and fighting.

We tried that for 6 weeks, I lost 10 lbs. It was okay but I’d need a few more calories to maitain. It was really hard because we had ice cream and cookies and all the good, high calorie foods staring us in the face but we were very disciplined.
