The gay marriage controversy may now be standing in the way of a new Chik-fil-A opening in California.
This week, five members of Santa Barbara's architectural board abstained from approving a landscaping plan for a restaurant. The move essentially halts the project from moving forward.
City Councilman Frank Hotchkiss condemned the board and requested its members resign.
"For a group thats supposed to working on architectural benefits for the city to just stop what they're doing because of their political views is outrageous," he said.
Board member Gary Mosel disagreed with Hotchkiss.
"I feel he's jumping the gun, and not knowing the situation and asking for our resignation is not a fair assessment," he said.
Mosel admitted he abstained from the vote because he's a member of two gay and lesbian groups. But he said each board member has their own reasons for not voting.
Well, I’m glad that there is no such barrier to the opening of the San Jose and Walnut Creek stores.
They need to sue the city. It will be solved in a ny minute
If we have patience, through abortion and Obama care, these guys will all fade away over time,
Victorious Faggot Nazis.
These guys are all against the 1%
Well, they only represent the 2%
The 98% of homeowners in that town - who will have better/more stable property taxes because this business wants to build there - should get a bit uppity...
The hate from liberals is unbelievable.
Someone here posted a graphic.
Had the swastika and words saying homo nazis we’re back and fabulous. Paraphrasing here.
They should rename Cancer.
I’m sorry, it looks like you have Terminal Liberal.
it is most certainly time to get these jerks out of office LONG OVERDUE.
Except it takes about 3 years to get through our Court system here.
Government discrimination based on religious convictions? Sounds like a federal civil rights lawsuit if there ever was one.
Having been through stuff like this with developers trying to tear down Historic Houses to build condo developments,I can tell you that if City Councils or Planning Boards are determined one way or another on a case like this, they can damn well do anything they want, anywhere in the process, to either approve or disapprove a developer/entrepreneur’s plans.
These things can and do take 2-5 years to reach a conclusion in municipalities. The ONLY way to guarantee this place will be built, and built because it SHOULD be built, is for an engaged civic activist group to get involved, work every day for it, and against those who want to stop it, question and expose their political motives, make an argument on a practical level for why it will be good for the area, etc.,etc. Make noise, get publicity, flood your town’s monthly meeting with a few hundred people, and not give up.
That is the only way you’ll win. Otherwise the opposition will play with nonsense like “the landscaping plan doesn’t coincide with our Master Plan or our Building Codes”.
And when they lose that argument they will move on to some other “reason”. Luckily, their time is running out, and their boy will not be in office after November.
Funny how religious persecution is just peachy when it comes from a protected “victim” group on the left.
You would think they would be the first ones to support the rights of others.
“Houston, I think we’ve had a First Amendment violation here.”
Facist. CFA should sue all of them under their constitutional rights. Rahm et al included.
Councilman Hotchkiss is right on the money. Slap these wackos down fast and furiously. No mercy and no excuses accepted. Can't stay focused on your job, resign and find a kissing gig somewhere.
“I feel he’s jumping the gun, and not knowing the situation and asking for our resignation is not a fair assessment,” he said.
Mosel admitted he abstained from the vote because he’s a member of two gay and lesbian groups. But he said each board member has their own reasons for not voting.
With all the S’s in those three sentences, I bet he was lisping and spitting all over the place
Sounds like the perfect reason for a law suit against the city council for religious persecution.
“The owner of the company is Christian, and his affirmation of those Christian beliefs resulted in the governmental attack on our business.”
It should be filed in federal court.
And they should sue for financial damages, incurred in the delays, as well as the delay in opening for business.
Nothing more dangerous than a Gaystapo armed with heavy U.S. military weapons. I can see them now, saying to 0bama, “We’ve got your back, thir.”
Actually, it was two lesbo board members that struck down my plans. Funny thing was, when I asked for an explanation of what ‘too French’ means, they simply informed me that it was not their position to design the landscape and that was all they had to say on the matter.
Architectural review boards can/ are a pain in the butt. Most are controlled by libs with too much time on their hands.
In my opinion, Chic-Fil-A should cut its losses immediately and run - - don’t walk - - away from that place without so much as a word. Just flat-out disappear from that sick toilet and make it like you were never there. Dead serious (unsolicited) advice.
I once had a hearing before a municipal “Technical Review Board” where I was appealing for a waiver for something that would have cost me a ton if I had to include it in my building plans. One Wednesday evening I met the board at a room in the local township hall and saw that one of the four members was a guy whose grandson I coached at baseball for many years. He came to most of the games and so we knew each other.
My waiver got approved.
It's not what you know, it WHO you know that really matters.
Although I've had that happen to me in many of my developments and I would always feel glad when I was approved, and most bitter when not; I still don't like it.
Years ago while in college, I conducted surveys of local governing boards as a school project. Anyhow, days when I shaved and dressed in a suit, I was given coffee....days later, at the same place (wearing tee shirt, blue jeans, and unshaven) security was called.
Have you read about the Dallas Cop and his Chick-Fil-A nightmare?
That is one spooky pic. Dang!
Ok, so you are calling 'Uncle' to the libs and to the Constitution?
This type of thinking is exactly what 0pansy, Pelosi, Reid and let's not for get about ChuckyShummer and the rest of the OURcorruptGANG wants you to do. Just Give-UP. Or, better yet, OBEY.
Don’t be naive. You would fight to locate a franchise where you’re not wanted? That toilet is the only available opening for a new Chic-Fil-A? Remind me not to let you run any businesses for me.
Need to establish a REAL-ACLU that tows completely to the constitutional line. Put the commies out of business.
Naive my butt, Sounds like you would give up your freedom to appease a group that hates GOD and worships 0pansy. Where do you stop bending over? Are you willing to burn GOD and the Constitution as well? I truly hope not. Howard, you truly seem like you have strayed from GOD.
I will help you come back to GOD.
I didn't read that into his post at all. It's more a question of whether to fight this flagrant violation of the First Amendment in the courts or to allow Santa Barbara to suffer the natural consequences of turning away jobs and business. Eventually, California will die of self-inflicted wounds, and simple walking away and shaking the dust off your feet allows them to make that happen more quickly. In this instance, I'm with you that we should fight evil directly. They should be sued for both permission and for damages, with both the city and the individuals who made this un-American decision held liable.
No kidding. Local zoning boards are the closest thing to commissars that I have ever dealt with. Just horrible. And you have to stand there and say, “please sir...can I have another?”
I would sell the land to some hazardous waste disposal company for a few pennies and tell Santa Barbara to kiss my ass if they want any chicken.
Good points. What this illustrates is the danger of over-regulation. What you described can extend to everything we do as regulations grow.
I thought CA was against racism. Then again the state did allow a perverted homosexual to stalk and sexually harass a normal kid. That kid was forced to take action on his own, ending in the killing of a sexual predator homosexual.
Maybe not. The penultimate California example is Half Moon Bay. They went to the wall and lost big time.
They need to sue the city. It will be solved in a ny minute
Nah, Councilman Hotchkiss just needs to invite the Chik-Fil-A mobile lunch wagon to Santa Barbara on an upcoming Saturday afternoon. I am sure a thousand of us would show up. I will. Be sure to invite the rest of the S.B. pols to witness how much potential tax receipts to the city’s coffers.
At some point, we could all start chanting “ Eat Mor Chicken “ with the same cadence like at baseball games where the fans chant “ Let’s Go (local-team-name-here) “.
