We live in a society saturated with guns and need better ways of preventing harm from them, says a doctor who believes the federal government must take a public health approach to gun ownership in the United States. (1)
Dr. Garen Wintemute, director of the University of Californias Violence Prevention Research Program likens the dangers inherent in owning a gun to those involved in driving a car. Highway safety measures, product changes and driving laws slashed deaths from car crashes decades ago says the doctor.

to curb [highway] deaths by trying to make people better drivers

One must pass a driver's education course to get a driver's license.
Why is it unreasonable to expect prospective gun owners pass a gun safety and usage course?
Because gun control isn't about guns. It's about control.
No Dr. Dimwit, we live in a society soaked in sex and we need to figure out how to become more morally straight
While I agree with you, it’s also a fact that liberals always ignore: The Second Amendment is a RIGHT, you do not need instruction in the exercise of rights any more than you can be compelled to exercise it. This is the same as saying, you have to have an education to vote, the lack of which is how we got Obama and the Democrats running the country. The expectation is that those who exercise a right would do so with common sense, not government control.
Dr. Wintemute should reconsider. I’d argue the greatest social disease is liberalism, and the culture of entitlement/dependance is breeds.
We have plenty of guns here where I live. And I also argue that widespread knowledge of that helps make for a more peaceful society (i.e. less likely to steal, less likely to assault, etc.).
Garen Wintemute is a 1960’s looking hippie who hates guns and facts in equal proportions and he’s also an attention whore who rolls out these idiotic press releases of his whenever he’s not getting enough attention at home.
And he’s on the public payroll at UC Davis.
I really like my doctor, but if he asked me if I had guns I would politely inform him that isn’t any of his business, and if he persisted he would lose me as a patient. I don’t think he would ask though.
UC Davis!

Refuse to answer when your physician asks about guns in the household.
I am a doctor...I think doctors like doctor wintemute are a “social disease”.
I can’t trust the medical judgment of a physician who is unable to distinguish between guns and bacteria ...
Anyone who fears guns in the hands of the common man has a very low opinion of the common man.
“I cant trust the medical judgment of a physician who is unable to distinguish between guns and bacteria ...
...or between my rights to privacy and his need to know.
Because the Constitution doesn’t say that the right to own a car shall not be infringed.
“Id argue the greatest social disease is liberalism”
And the greatest personal threat is political correctness.
Maybe we can “marry” our guns ;-)
Can someone here post a link to the numbers of people killed by doctors vs. guns?
If you think it has to be mentioned in the Constitution than you don’t understand the working theory of this country. Our rights don’t come from the Constitution.
Hey, I got a social disease!
