I am sort of impressed.
I have watched a dozen or so different versions of this and have L’edMAO at every one. I’m sure someday the bit will get old but it hasn’t yet. This one had even more than the usual number of clever turns. Biden’s three words? Priceless.
Jim’s position has been supportable from day 1 - day 1 when the GOP choice of Romney was sealed in the flawed but legal primaries and state caucuses.
To suggest that it was not supportable would be to suggest that we Conservatives should totally “roll over”, go hibernate in some political wilderness and let everyone else make decisions without us.
Guys like Jim Demint would get abandoned in the process, as would the new Conservative candidates he has been assisting for Congressional races. Sitting out elections is not a decision or a choice, it is non-decision; a refusal to make one.
It’s political cowardice. It’s deciding before hand that there are no battles left that can still make a difference. As often as not that happens simply when the battlefield is abandoned, not because “all is lost”.
To be in a war, requires being on a team, a team that is engaged in the process. You may not like everyone on your team, but if you’re not on one, you’re not in it, and in this country 3rd parties are not in it. Social Conservatives recognized this in the 1960s and decided to participate, in the GOP. They made a difference and most are still there. Libertarians split, with many leaving the GOP. That was a mistake for them, for the GOP and for the country. Conservatism is many layered and it is stronger when Conservatives agree to disagree and agree to work together on bigger agendas than their own. Defeating Obama is one such agenda. That is an agenda we need to remain in on, no matter which Conservative label we wear.
