LONDON -- The fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin has raised fundamental questions about what is the right and the wrong thing to do in violent situations.
The circumstances of Martins death are still unclear, but his killer George Zimmermans argument is essentially that he was defending himself after the teenager attacked him.
Authorities in Florida initially seemed to believe this, freeing Zimmerman without charge. Under Florida's controversial "stand your ground" law, Zimmerman was not required to flee before using force.
But, after widespread uproar, a fresh investigation saw him charged with second-degree murder.
Florida will eventually come to its own answer about whether Zimmerman, who has pleaded not guilty, was justified in using lethal force. But what would other legal systems make of a similar case?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NBCNews.com spoke with legal experts to ask what would likely happen to a shooter if a killing similar to the one described by Zimmerman happened in different countries.
We presented them with a fictionalized case based on his account -- see below -- and asked them to analyze the possible outcomes, particularly how the various judicial systems would handle an assertion of self-defense.
It should be stressed that the experts' opinions are speculative and based on limited information, and the factual record of the Zimmerman case is still not fully established....

What "fresh investigation"?
Bottom Line: Eric Holder’s people consider support gun control because they believe violent crime to be a legitimate career path, and armed victims to be an OSHA violation.
What "fresh investigation"?
Remember? The one demanded by Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP, black panthers and Benjamin Crumb, in exchange for keeping 100 cities from going up in smoke last Spring. Were you out of town?
They don’t mention the evidence that Martin was banging Zimmerman’s head on the pavement.
Oops, at the very end of the long article, they do give the fictionalized story:
1. Neighborhood watch coordinator John Smith, who is carrying a firearm, sees someone he thinks is acting suspiciously and begins to follow him, at first in his car, then on foot. The suspicious person, Charles Jones, has not done anything wrong. He has just been to a shop to buy some candy and a drink and is returning to the house where he is staying.
2. Smith calls the police while he is following his suspect, asking for a police officer to come and saying These @!$%#s, they always get away. He is told not to follow Jones.
3. Jones runs away and Smith loses sight of him.
4. Smith starts to return to his car. Jones returns and there is a verbal exchange.
5. Jones punches Smith, knocking him to the ground, then bangs his head off the ground.
6. Smith shoots Jones in the chest. The range of the shot is disputed, the gun is either in contact with Jones clothing or was fired at intermediate range. Police arrive, attempt to revive Jones, but he is pronounced dead at the scene.
7. Smith sustained a “closed fracture” of his nose, a pair of black eyes, two lacerations to the back of his head and a minor back injury.
8. Smith claims self-defense.
Sure -- unclear to people who ignore the evidence.
Trayvon already got all the justice he deserves.
Who are these MSM frauds trying to kid. Ian, your NBC people doctored evidence to make it appear a racist act. Why would you think you have an once of credibility trying to spin this case again.
That’s sounds like a fairly clean case of self-defense.
I don’t really give a damn what other countries would do.
In other countries, apparently, self-defense is not a defense. You shouldn’t think of your life as being any more valuable than anyone else’s.
No big surprise there, most certainly NOT news.
First NBC misstated the case, "told by police not to follow", "These @!$%#s always get away (neither assertion is true of the Zimmermann case)! Then they cherry pick countries with draconian gun laws that virtually eliminate any chance of a not guilty verdict for their mock trial, (formerly) Great Britain, Germany, South Africa, Canada! How did they ever miss Australia or Mexico? This farcical bit of mummery has done absolutely nothing to further the cause of justice, on the contrary, it only serves to inflame racial tensions. Apparently the pot wasn't bubbling vigorously enough to satisfy them.

In THIS country , we value human life.
Anyone who faces “Deadly Physical Force” can respond with “Deadly Physical Force” to preserve their own life.
There were no first-hand witnesses to the assault, other than some who responded (after the fact) subsequent to a firearm being discharged. The only first hand account of the assault / discharge of firearm comes only from the only survivor of this altercation. The medical injuries reported by police , and not those purposely overlooked by the main stream media to inflame the masses , demonstrate serious bodily injury which could have been death-threatening if not interrupted by a firearm dischage.
The victim was not “told by police not to follow”; he was told by a ‘civilian’ at the 911 call center, who has no police or law enforcement function.
The alledged eronioious quote ,” “These @!$%#s always get away while previously true in other property crimes in the complex, was never alledged by police , ..nor can it be found on the 911 tapes. The allegation by the various news media was intended to inflame the situation , and make headlines, and to make the video dependant “usefull-idiots” to stay tuned , and boost program ratings .
