The storm shortened Republican National Convention gets down to business today but there may be a major surprise planned for this carefully scripted and otherwise pre-announced event. According to the newly released convention schedule, a speaker listed only as 'To Be Announced' will deliver his or her remarks to the delegates and a national television audience on Thursday night.
The mystery speaker's slot is right before Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) is set to introduce the by then newly nominated Mitt Romney whose acceptance speech will end the evening and the convention.
With seemingly all of the big Romney surrogates already in their places on the schedule, it's hard to imagine that 'To Be Announced' is anyone already publicly in the Romney camp. And given, the Romney campaign's careful (some say too careful) planning and implementation of its strategies, it's doubtful that 'To Be Announced' will be some wildcard added to the schedule for dramatic effect.
One other potential hint: since the two known speakers on Thursday night's schedule (Rubio and Romney) are sure to fill most of the major networks' primetime coverage, it's probably a safe bet that the remarks of 'To Be Announced' will be brief and that rules out any true politician.
So who's left? It could be an inane scripted moment (think Donald Trump telling Governor Romney "You're hired!") Or it could be a heartwarming appearance by former First Lady Nancy Reagan. Maybe it will be an unexpected endorsement of the Romney/Ryan ticket from a well-known (and now former) Obama supporter. Or a group of former Obama supporters like those featured in the new Citizens United documentary The Hope and the Change.
We'll just have to wait and watch.
Hmmmm....Maybe that’s why Joe Biden is going down to Florida? He’s one the best speakers for the Republicans even though it is a bit hard sometimes to understand him with his foot in his mouth.
Sarah Palin? Flown in by Trump
Sarah Palin?
Flown in and introduced by Trump
Two words: Reagan. Hologram.
;-)
Scott Walker?
Unless GOP-E sends in Scott With the Truck to try to win a few leftist votes.....
If I take a wild guess, it’s Newt Gingrich.
Hope it’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio just to be able to watch the political establishment talking heads explode. Can you imagine Chris Matthew’s reaction to merely a rumor of this?
“Hmmmm....Maybe thats why Joe Biden is going down to Florida?”
Biden has cancelled his trip to Tampa.
Sarah Palin is already there, been giving interviews for the past two days....
I would guess it would be her as well to solidify the Tea Party vote and blunt the “war on women” call from the Demoncrats.......
Would be quite a slap in the face to McLame who was NOT invited to talk...heck, even Crazy Gramdpa was invited to talk...LOL
“Sarah Palin?
Flown in and introduced by Trump”
This would liven things up! :-) I would LOVE to see that!
He can fire up a crowd, and has all the credentials from which to address a large voting group which may tune out the trivial and shallow Trump and other assorted spokesmen for Republicans.
Further, his unique and in-depth study of America's Founding ideas, and his likewise in-depth understanding of the ideology of those who would like to destroy America qualify him immensely for speaking out on behalf of real liberty.
Yeah, but did anyone bother telling Joe?
That would be a great choice! Dem heads would be exploding all over the country!
Independent Joe Lieberman to counter Charley Crist.
Lieberman or Palin I say are the best two guess, but I was real hoping it would be Obama’s Kenya Grandmother! ;-)
That’s actually a good idea!
Bill and Hillary Clinton.
