The "Fluke" Of Feminism
Self | 9/3/12 | Me

Posted on 09/03/2012 1:56:22 PM PDT by xuberalles

Democrats are so out of touch, so delusional, they have given Sandra Fluke a prominent speaking platform at their convention. If you remember correctly, Fluke was the thirty year-old, feminist student at Georgetown who testified before Congress as a supposed victim of economic discrimination; i.e., Georgetown’s most affordable health plan – an annual $1559 policy - didn’t cover her need for “condoms” because oral contraceptives were not safe. Disregarding the fact that Miss Fluke is thirty years-old, and free condoms can routinely be found at health clinics and colleges across America, what does this say about personal responsibility, let alone common sense? And what about her supposed male suitors? Were they equally incapable of purchasing a box of condoms, abstaining until they had money, let alone procuring a part-time job; something millions of teenagers do every year? If your health is truly that important, wouldn’t any rationale human being sacrifice that Starbucks latte, one night at the bar, that Code Pink donation, in order to purchase contraception? Apparently, unlike law school, life doesn’t come with instructions.

The real tragedy of this choreographed charade is that millions of hard working, responsible Americans cannot put gas in their tanks or food on their table; even worse, they are losing their homes, their children, their very lives. Furthermore, there are countless "victims" who are suffering from real maladies - Cancer, MS, Diabetes, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, etc - who could careless about the financial rigors of a 75 cent condom.

Yet, amidst this “real” national tragedy, Democrats have the gall to put this woman front and center as a tool of demagoguery solely to cement their imaginary, “war on women”, election theme and to propagate the “irrefutable” need for Obamacare; which, by the way, is largely responsible for skyrocketing health premiums in the first place. If our so-called President and his devoted followers actually believe Sandra Fluke is representative of the current plight of this nation – chronic unemployment, massive debt, record foreclosures, inflation, a worthless currency – they have completely abandoned the American people, the American Dream, altogether.

If a political party cannot differentiate between priorities and propaganda, progressivism and patriotism, how can they be trusted to solve, let alone recognize, our most pressing issues? Sadly, though most fittingly, our confused liberal friends could have learned a lot from Utah Congressional candidate, Mia Love; a self-made woman, responsible mother, and recent RNC spokeswoman who immigrated from impoverished Haiti. Yet, guess which indelible inspiration the Democratic Party chose to honor instead? And guess which woman the unbiased media will relentlessly promote as the voice of this new generation of victimized women? Well, because silence often speaks far more than minced words, I’m going to my hometown health clinic here in rural America. There will be no cameras, sensational headlines, or Greek columns to announce the grandeur of my presence or my cause. Therefore, in the anecdotes of altruism, the pages that bind the guiding principles of our lives, I leave Sandra Fluke with this final footnote: instructions are on the way!

Great move on the part of the dems. - to have this lady of easy virtue front and center at their convention.

Shows the world what low values they have.

Fluke’s testimony

http://abcnews.go.com/images/Politics/statement-Congress-letterhead-2nd%20hearing.pdf

There is nothing in there about condoms.

There is plenty in there to argue with. A big one for me is her testimony was mostly hearsay. She refers over and over to anonymous people who have said this and that happened to them ... but there is no way of checking any of these stories out. I don’t consider that valid evidence to back up what she is saying.

I think you are right about what she actually said...but people came away with the impression that she was talking about her own situation.

That's because they took Rush Limbaugh's spin as gospel, and Limbaugh had never heard Fluke's speech before he started riffing on it. He specifically stated that he had a news article from some conservative service and he spoke from that. Most people on FR never heard or read a transcript of Fluke's speech; they are just repeating what Limbaugh said.

In fact, Fluke's speech was worse. She spoke of six women. One had been raped but didn't go for STD testing because she assumed that, if birth control wasn't covered, nothing related to her vagina was covered.

Another was a married woman who had to abandon all birth control when her particular brand of oral contraceptive was no longer covered. A third was a woman who lost her feeling of empowerment as a woman and could not buy contraceptives after she found they were no longer covered under her plan.

Conservatives commentators, including Limbaugh, would have had a field days with what Fluke actually said - but instead we lost the battle when he went off with the 'slut' comments, the 'round-heeled' comments, the 'it's a miracle she can walk after all that sex' comments, the 'base and immoral' for having so much sex comments.

Fluke never talked about her own sex life. She told some ridiculous stories about other women that could have been torn apart, but we lost that moral high ground the moment Limbaugh started lying about Fluke's sex life and calling her a slut.

Thank you.

Limbaugh totally derailed the real issue .... which is religious freedom under the 1st Amendment ... which we will never get to talk about now.
