Th start things off I brought a #10 Can of Augason Farms Morning-Moo Low Fat Milk Alternative. I was very drinkable and actually to me had a slight sweet taste. I got it at the Walmart in Durango for $12.46 and it makes 23.25 quarts.

Today I bought 40 acres with a house and a well. OK, haven’t “bought” it yet, but accepted the banks counter offer and have 17 days for inspection and 30 days til closing.

I would think that in times of meager, you’d want fats as well. I bought the fortified fat milk a bit ago. I also just receved my canned butter from New Zealand. It is excellent! (Red Feather)

We have a good stock of beans, wheat, etc., but now need to buy a grinder. There are so many to choose from. Any opinions on a good one? Must be a manual grinder.

It does have soy in it so I will steer clear. I got a book “Survival Plants of Colorado - Vol-1” By Cattail Bob Seebeck. It has the good tasting wild plants, medicinals uses and poisonous plants also. Looks good.

I am probably not the first to do so, but I never throw bars of soap after there is just a sliver left. I have a couple of large ziploc bags full of soap slivers.

Another question. When using buckets or even #10 cans, the oxygen packs will not last long (imo). Is there a good little hand unit for sucking air out of a container after you toss in the oxygenizer?

I brought some NIDO which is supposed to be whole milk. I don’t know if I just got a bad can or what, but it gagged me. I can drink powdered no fat milk, but it has to be cold.

I use a Mylar liner in mine and squeeze out most as I can and then throw in the oxygen absorbers, Some people do have a vacuum tube rigged, but they all seem to use different set-ups.

hmmm, from my cursory look, it looks like that is not for longterm use. I just have so much confidence on the stuff from Emergency Essentials.

Thanks, I just do not have a feel for how long an absorber will last without pulling out the atmosphere. Even receiving the absorber in the packaging bothers me. How long will they last in the packaging in which they are shipped. Prolly need to store them in a bucket that is sucked out.

In daily operation, I can see repeated access to the buckets/cans that require absorbers. So of course the goal is to maximize the life of the absorbers. Once they are gone it then becomes a race to eat the food before it goes bad.

I buy the Provident Pantry Instant Nonfat Dry Milk in #10 cans. Tastes very good. In fact I quit buying milk from the grocery and use only this stuff. I keep a dozen or so on hand.
