NY Times Transcript: Joe Biden's Geographic Malarkey (Syria vs Libya)
NY Times ^ | 10/11/12 | NY Times

MS. RADDATZ: Let’s move to another war, the civil war in Syria, where there are estimates that -- estimates that more than 25,000, 30,000 people have now been killed. In March of last year, President Obama explained the military action taken in Libya by saying it was in the national interest to go in and prevent further massacres from occurring there. So why doesn’t the same logic apply in Syria? Vice President Biden.

VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN: It’s a different country. It’s a different country. It is five times as large geographically. It has one-fifth the population that is Libya, one-fifth the population, five times as large geographically.

Au contrair, Monsieur Biden. Libya is 10 times the size of Syria, while having only 1/3 the population. You're ass-backward by a factor of 2.

Though, imagine if a Republican had said this.

What's crazy is that Biden has a long long record of mangling geography and history. Because he is able to deliver stupidities with apparent utter sincerity, everybody gives him a pass (known from now on as a "raddatz").

Barack Obama chose Joe Biden as VP because of his “foreign policy experience.”

Joe Biden says Syria is geographically the biggest country in the world!

Joe said Syria is geographically 10 times larger than Libya:

According to Wickedpedia, Libya is 679,000 square miles, while Russia, with the largest landmass of any country, is 6,590,000 square miles. Syria is 185,000 square miles.

"When I speak, I say what I mean and I mean what I say!" ---Joe Biden, 10/11/2012, 9:42 pm.
Repeated, 10:16 pm: "When I speak, I say what I mean and I mean what I say!" ---Joe Biden, 10/11/2012.

I caught this immediately last night. I about fell off my chair, and I was disappointed that neither the moderator nor Ryan nailed him on it. It was a typical Bidenism: utterly stupid and beyond reason to anyone who has the faintest inkling of African geography.

Exactly! Geography matters, particularly if you’re bandying about the world with drone strikes first and questions later.

Sorry that Ryan didn’t nail him on this nor on the fact that he VOTED to go to war on a credit card.

Since when do facts matter with DemoRats or their morons as fawning voters? Biden bullied Ryan with arrogance, laughs and smirks.
And all the moron Dems rejoiced in exaltation—facts be damned and on with the leftist, feel-good agenda.

When Biden made that statement, I wasn't sure I heard right--but I did. Chalk up another gaffe for Bumbles the Clown.

I didn't know which country was which last night when I heard it. Reading the transcript, I still don't.

“It has one-fifth the population THAT IS Libya,”?????

Syria has one-fifth the population of Libya?

or

Libya has one-fifth of the population of Syria, ?????

It depends what the meaning of “IT” is.

Maybe the moderator could have asked Biden to clear that up.

I heard that last night. I’m surprised the Times, of all things, called him on it.
