Lindsey Graham’s collaboration with Democrats points to tea-party primary challenge in ’14
Daily Caller ^ | October 13, 2012 | W. James Antle III

Posted on 10/15/2012 2:31:26 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham’s opposition to political ads targeting several Democratic senate incumbents could create a significant re-election issue for him in 2014.

When Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul launched an ad campaign against Democrats who opposed his proposal to end foreign aid to Libya, Egypt and Pakistan, Graham took the unusual step of defending the Democrats from a fellow Republican.

Graham held a conference call with West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin to slam both the ad and Paul’s foreign aid bill.

Paul swiftly fired back, telling Politico, “I don’t see myself campaigning against a Republican in a general election ever, that’s why I think it’s extraordinary that Graham is supporting a Democrat in a general election.”

“Which is more important,” he asked: “Defending … a failed policy of foreign aid or getting a Republican majority?”

The comes amid speculation that Graham could be a tea party target when he faces re-election two years from now.

In September, Club for Growth president Chris Chocola told a Christian Science Monitor breakfast that his group may have Graham in its sights.

Noting several high-profile conservative primary victories over established Republican incumbents, Chocola said, “If you are looking over the horizon of 2014, the sun may rise over South Carolina.”

If Grahamnesty and Lamar Alexander can be thrown out in 2014 I will be happy. (Not that there aren’t others than need to be thrown out too. I just can’t stomach these two any longer.)

To Grahamnsty, the most important thing is not offending his bum chums.

The folks in SC better wake up to the fact that they cannot trust either party.

Wrong, they cannot trust RINOs. And RATs can absolutely be trusted...to be RATS, communist to the bone.

They must find people, regardless of party “affiliation”, who are honest, trustworthy, well informed citizens who are willing to take time out of their lives for the benefit of their country.

What are ya on.....drugs?

There are no RATs who can do that, the power-RATs will get rid of them. Otherwise, what are you going to do, elect some phony "independent" progressive like Angus King?

At least if you elect a TEApublican, you'll have a pretty good chance of getting what you described.

Your post is dead in. Key point, the Tea Party wasn’t formed, half the people around me in SC didn’t give Buddy Witherspoon a second thought as Graham’s conservative alternative... Most to this day have never heard the name. It is the way it was THEN. This is NOW ... People know the lib/conservative difference ... Graham will get clobbered in his next primary. Too many of us are looking forward to throwing this lib out of office. Back then the local venue was standing room only... recently the same venue held 30 people.

All Rinos must go. Unfortunately, after one term in the Senate, they all turn into RINOS.

There's a reason for that, filthy cities.

The House districts are usually red and contain mostly red counties...the Senators are elected at large and their districts also contain the blue urban districts.

In order to win re-election, they have to play nice with the RATs (RINO up) or just like any "blue-dog" RAT, they'll take the conservative out.

Repeal the 17th Amendment. The Founding Fathers knew what they were doing.

I am no defender of Graham, but there is one alternative theory worth considering. It has merit, IMHO, given that there appears to be no valid reason for Graham to stick his head so far out on the chopping block.

GOP prospects for the taking the Senate don't look as good as a few months ago ( though I personally think that they will win the majority. McConnell is going nuts; he'd already started picking out the drapes and furniture for the majority leader's office. Manchin will win, though WV is now pretty much solid Republican..this is the last hurrah for statewide Dems. WV is about one electoral cycle behind Arkansas in this regard..

They're working out a deal, in secret for Manchin to change parties after the election. Remember Ben Nighthorse-Campbell? Could be the same scenario.

Rockefeller will retire..he won't run in 2014 and risk defeat. Capito will run for the Senate. Graham is the point man for brokering the deal, and he felt the need to give Manchin some cover.

So why is Graham risking his career. Easy..he's not going to run in 2014. He's probably seen polls..if not commissioned them, showing that he'd lose against one or more of SC GOP congressmen. Personally, I'd love to see Tim Scott in the Senate.

Mitt will win, and appoint Graham to a major post in the administration. I think he would do a superb job as VA head.

And this would let Gov Haley appt the next senator, and thus avoid a bruising primary.

Bookmark this, y'all..you read it here first.

I AGREE WITH THAT. Randy Barnett’s Bill of Federalism is the best overall solution.

What's wrong with this guy?

Rep. Trey Gowdy Explodes At Libya Hearing: 'I Want To Know Why We Were Lied To'

Trey Gowdy, an outspoken Republican congressman from South Carolina, blasted Obama administration officials during Wednesday's House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on the Libya U.S. Consulate terrorist attack, raising his voice to levels rarely heard on the House floor.

To what party do RINOs belong?
Who controls that party?
Why do we have mittens instead of a conservative?
Why weren't conservatives fairly treated in the 2012 primary process?

... and you think I'm on drugs?

_Anyone_ who pushes party over principle is suspect in my book.
(of course in our current situation one side has no principles, the other has varying degrees of principles from none at all to plenty.)

There are some who have the integrity and fortitude to avoid it (Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint for example), but unless we provide strong conservative support from identification and selection until they are done with their public service, we'll find that "the party machine" will corrupt them every time.

Of course 'the party' doesn't want the hassle of having to convert, so they'll get one or more of theirs in play as early as possible (wolf in sheep's clothing) to maintain their part of control...

... which is why I distrust anyone who pushes party over principle.

RATs

He won the nomination.

Open primaries.

That is supposed to be the same thing. Unfortunately you have a fully invested communist party, and a halfway, squishy-socialist party. The Republican Party is the only thing large enough to defeat the RATs, and it needs to be totally taken over by TEApublicans, as began to happen in 2010.

You have nowhere else to go.

As it stands, I'll take ta Chamber of Commerce/NFIB Republican over communists any day of the week, but I do prefer TEA.

Only if Mitt is determined to carry out BO's plans to finish queering and wussifying the military. And I'm getting mixed signals on that. Otherwise, why would they be campaigning on increase military spending? It really isn't a winning issue in this cycle.

I consider your argumentation disingenuous.

I prefer truth, honor and integrity... if it’s not there, I won’t support the ‘cause’.

I’ve had enough of the excuses.

If you haven’t, read my tag line.

Oh, the voters of SC are innocent of this travesty. Victims in fact. But the GOP elders should have moved or postured him for replacement in a manner other than the revolt that I am sure is coming.

We had a similar but less offensive situation here in Ohio with cry baby liberal George Voinovich.

The GOP establishment is to blame. Pull them out by the roots.
