We all know that the employment situation in the USA is horrible. Average duration of unemployment of 40 weeks and a 14.7% unemployment/underemployment rate.
We do know that civilian labor force participation has declined from 65.7% in January 2009 to 63.6% in September 2012. That is a large drop in labor force participation.
Lets break it down. Since January 2009:
827,000 more people have been added to the labor force! (Blue line)
8,206,000 more people are NOT in the labor force! (Red line)
That is almost a 10:1 ratio of people not in the labor force over those entering the labor force!
As John Taylor at Stanford University has noted, this is the WORST economic recovery since 1882. These figures support the premise that this recovery is tepid at best.
Call it the breadline recovery without breadlines. Just part-time jobs, food stamps and disability claims.

My bad. It should have been 10 times MORE people dropped out of labor force than entered it.
800,000 a month put on disability. For life.
50% of veterans of Gulf wars.

Thanks for the correction. The original headline was making my head hurt.
