President Says High Gas Prices Are Sign of Prosperity
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 20 Oct 2012 | John Semmens

Posted on 10/20/2012 9:46:58 AM PDT by John Semmens

In a desperate effort to try to persuade voters that the economy is starting to recover, President Obama touted high gas prices as “proof that things are better than most people think they are.”

“Rising demand is what pushes prices up,” Obama explained. “The fact that gasoline prices have more than doubled since I took office shows that people must be driving more. Since studies show that driving to work accounts for the bulk of most folks’ travel I think it’s safe to say that the jobs picture has to be a lot better than we’ve been led to believe.”

The President boasted that “my efforts to boost the price of fuel had to overcome strenuous resistance from my political opponents. The GOP’s relentless crusade to open up drilling sites and ease regulations had one goal in mind—thwarting the economic recovery by preventing prices from rising. I’m confident that voters will see this obstruction for what it is and not be fooled into reversing course.”

When Obama took office in January 2009 the average price of gasoline was $1.80. Today it is $3.80. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu expressed the hope that “similar gains can be achieved over the next four years if the President is reelected.”

Yeah....and Obama is an American patriot, a capitalist and staunch supporter of the Constitution and individual freedoms.

If we could only get the price up to $20 per gallon, we’d all be rich!

You’ve “gotten me” a couple of times. I truly enjoy your posts. We have a friend that actually believes this about the price of gas, and yes, he’s a liberal! LOLOL

THANK you, President Obama, for helping to raise our gas prices! I feel so much more prosperous! And more like an enlightened European! Plus, I have the benefit of knowing that we are doing our part to keep the planet a cooler place, so that all those cute little baby polar bears can survive. May we all put electric batteries in our cars, and sails on their roofs, to get around. Better yet, let us all take PUBLIC TRANSIT, so our fellow passengers can assist us in the redistribution of wealth.

The sad thing is he might actually say something like this.

What’s even sadder is that the dumb liberals will agree with it.

The problem is, you can’t satirize these people. They are caricatures of themselves. This was totally believable....

The sad thing is he did (during the last debate) and people seem to have missed it.

What he said was prices were so liw ($1.86-ish) on Jan 20, 2009 was because the economy was (not his words) in the crapper.

There is a correlation in that prosperity causes more fuel to be used and thus higher prices because the supply cannot be enhanced so quickly. When the price gets too high then the economies go into recession and the price goes down because of less fuel consumption.

He has said that the prices were lower under Bush because the economy was so crappy - I guess were supposed to believe we’re not only better off now, but twice as good as we were. Thank God he didn’t improve the economy to the point gas was $20.00/gal - I don’t think I’d be able to stand the bliss.
