Surprising poll shows Romney up big in Pennsylvania

Not only does the Rasmussen Daily Tracking poll show Romney up 2 points today; not only does the Rasmussen Swing State poll show Romney up 49-46 today (included are 11 states which Obama won 53-46 in 2008); not only is Romney up by 50-37 among swing state independents; NOW Susquehanna Polling and Research (SPR) shows Mitt Romney up 49-45 in the normally deep blue state of Pennsylvania. (1)

SPR is an automated poll of 1,376 likely voters, taken between October 11-13. Although its results do not include the 2nd presidential debate, Gallup incorporates over 50% of the post-debate days in its 7 day rolling average poll and Rasmussen includes only days since the debate. Yet neither of these polls show any sort of debate performance bounce for Barack Obama even though...

I won’t be surprised if Romney takes Pennsylvania, if not on the coal issue alone.

I’m just poll-weary at this point. I’m anxiously awaiting actual results. It’s been a long two years.

OK I had previously posted that I didn't think the GOP had a chance in PA. If this pans out I will be very glad to eat that crow, with a side of Sam Adams. If we pick up Pennsylvania, Ohio no longer is enough to keep Obama in the Oval Office.

Dick Morris did have a theory on this. Because PA was thought to be safe Obama never ran any of his negative adds there. So the first view the low information voters in PA got of Romney was the first debate. This could completely upset Obama's firewall strategy.

Almost two weeks left folks. Get out and vote. Tell your friends to vote Romney. Tell your mama to get out and vote Romney.

After that we have the arduous process of keeping Romney conservative.

OK, I will channel both Intapundit and Iowahawk at once. “Don’t get cocky because all political polls are garbage.”

Don't be surprised by a PA Romney victory. I live just east of Pittsburgh and have yet to find an Obama voter in person. There are 20 Romney signs for every 1 Obama sign. There is great excitement here and we DON'T need political ads to know the current President is a loser.

It’s CLEAR that 0bama’s mission is to TERMINATE COAL PRODUCTION. How could ANY coal-producing state vote for 0bama? That’s SUICIDAL.. Ain’t gonna happen!

The problem with this poll is that it’s D+6. In active registrations, the D/R/I in The Keystone State is 50/38/12. That means that even factoring in an enthusiasm gap, you’ve got to expect D+9 or D+10 here. Doing that says that PA is about 50-50. That is very bad news for 0 but not as bad as the Susquehanna poll suggests.

In 2008 the suburban Philly counties turned deep, deep blue (as opposed to neutral or even pale pink). If that model reasserts itself Romney may indeed have his shot here.

Pittsburgh abd Philly versus the rest of the state. What I hope is that Obama’s base are not as enthusiastic this time around.
