I was over at the post office over lunch break to mail an envelope. I was using a self help kiosk and in the payment menu I noticed - for the first time - that along with credit and debit, there was the option of EBT. EBT ! Now I haven't been to a post office in a while, could be a year or more since I generally send packages by UPS and buy stamps from the grocery store, but the last time I was at a post office I do not recall an EBT payment option. Anybody else noticed this ? Apparently now you can mail letters and send package using foodstamps.
There are experts on this system ~ but it would seem likely the USPS deals with the EBT as just another debit card ~ and does not have access to the food stamp funds.
Some states put welfare payments on the EBT cards, cheaper than writing checks.
So even with tax dollars transferred from one govt dept to another, they are still in the red.
Just checked my Stamps.com Account, where I buy pre-printed custom stamp sheets and buy postage, and there’s no EBT option there. Yet.
EBT cards do food stamps as well as cash payments like AFDC
Go to the USPS web site and check for methods of payment. They list EBT cards right as another type of debit card.
Just wait until restaurants are forced to accept EBT cards. I think fast food already does but it’s racist to keep card holders out of the better establishments.
Or worse, they just don't care. I once had to process an enormous deficiency on IRS!
You can imagine their chagrin at being caught up short. Yes, it was a ginormous inter agency wedgy ~ USPS won a lot of it.
Their cries of pain and agony still awaken me in the night ~ like howls of underfed coyotes actually.
So what happens when the economy crashes and all of the EBT cards (Electronic Benefit Transfer) flash **ERROR**?

Stamps now come with a nutrition label? I thought they got rid of the ones that could be licked. Maybe people have resorted to eating stamps. That’s only expensive for customers paying with real (earned) money. Has Moochelle demanded that stamps be printed with images of vegetables?
Yes, I think Michelle’s school lunch plans include stamps with pictures of vegetables. The back that can be licked tastes like the vegetable. That is all the nutrition the kids need today.
I don’t think it’s legal; however if the grocery store turns in the EBT voucher or whatever it’s called and the USDA doesn’t catch it, it gets reimbursed.
