In the future, when I receive requests in the mail from organizations who want a donation, I will return the following note to them in their OWN postage paid envelope:
Sir:
The US government has hired people to take my money from me FOR you.
As a result, it is impossible for me to continue contributions to charities of MY choice.
If you need assistance, I suggest you contact the people the government has hired on your behalf.
Thank you.
When it comes to your son and parents, might i suggest that enclosed in their Christmas/Birthday cards is a note stating that a donation has been made in their name to a local “give-to-the-poor” charity. Your point will be made and they should be happy that you have now seen the light.
all my charitable giving is going to winchester now ...maybe a little to federal
You are much more kind than I could ever be! I could not ever give money to people, family or no, who abuse me and deride me for not supporting the tyrant who wants to take all my money in the first place! Tell them, if they ask, to get it from Obozo, he beat them to your money!
It must be about twenty years ago now since I decided that too many causes supported by United Way were anti-gun or otherwise opposed to my beliefs.
I had been donating at least $20 per month and that was being matched by my employer, for a total of $480 per year.
I found out that my employer maintained a list of UW alternatives. Though I lived in Kalifornia, I was able to find a Boy Scout organization in Utah which was on the list. I received very gracious letters from them for years thanking me for my contributions. They must have wondered about me but never asked for an explanation.
I’m betting all those mall Christmas trees with “giving stars” will be less full this year. FYI, you do know that many of those families sign up the same fake kids all over town.
Di Lorenzo is my bish, too...and a total disappointment. When he first came in, I had such high hopes for him to be a conservative, Church tenets upholding, no nonsense kind of Shepherd.
OK, maybe Salvtn Army will me off the list...but Red Cross who pays their President $450K a year is on it big time.
I have also copied your note for futher use only for non-Christian organizations searching for donations. They don’t need to extra postage burdon as another Freeper pointed out.
I will keep giving to my church because I am really giving it to God...and my church does not support liberal values and ideas. If you love the Lord, but don’t want to support your church, there are many fine Christian ministries out there that will be hurting financially. Please give to them. We need to keep the church strong so they can minister to people hurting, and highlight the difference between government handouts versus the life-changing love of Christ.
How about - “I gave at the office. The IRS office.”
I actually did something like that the second Christmas that obama was in office. I sent a donation (in my oldest son’s name)of baby chicks to Haiti earthquake relief through Samaritan’s Purse. They sent him a card notifying him that the donation had been made. I also sent him a huge food basket of special items and fifty bucks in a Christmas card. Not a word from him. I hung in there and reached out, as a mother should, but it was all in vain.
I will not be giving to any charity. If I personally know of a good decent person (no democrat need apply) in need, I will help them directly. That is all I will do from here on.
I expect that my father will be calling me for money soon. I’ll calmly tell him to apply to obama. If (when) either of my parents tries to hit me up for groceries, I will politely suggest that they call the White House and ask to speak with the head chef.
I don’t expect to hear from my son. That is a massive sadness to me, but he initiated it, and has chosen to turn his back on me. So be it.
All of the takers can go hungry and cold as far as I am concerned. There is more than one way to wage #War.
I hear your mother’s heart. It is a tough one, but you are correct. A prayer is being said for you from me.
Thank you bellal.
Now I am crying again. :)
But what point is a peevish, misdirected, ill-advised gesture if it doesn't hurt them with the postage?
Examination would be a good idea--regardless of who's in office. (Really, should I consider donating to a left-leaning charity under a Romney administration or even something like the second coming of Reagan?)
Besides asking if the cause itself is worthy--"hmm, should I donate to the Absolutely All Abortions Advocacy Association?"--and how well the organization handles the money, I'd look at the "people" and the "worldview" (your words and my thoughts align).
One consideration in particular is how entwined with organization is with or how supportive the organization is of Democrats and the like. I don't see how someone can vote for an Obama for president without significant thought problems (like incredible ignorance, poor motives, or willful stupidity), insanity, or evil. Why should I trust such a person with my money?
