Desperately Seeking Heroes
Me | November 11, 2012 | RetSignman

Posted on 11/11/2012 11:14:28 AM PST by RetSignman

We all love and admire heroes but where do we look when we grow desperate to find them?

The outcome of this election has driven us to search frantically for answers to 'where are our heroes when we need them the most'?

The answer is and always has been...WHERE are we have been looking.

TOPICS: Government; Politics
KEYWORDS:
Way too many believe, that looking for heroes have to be found Washington, the Senators and House members we have given the power to speak for us. The people we have, naively, trusted them to protect our Constitution and our Republic.

Why do we look to these people for answers when their ultimate goal is building a comfortable nest egg to retire on which we will be obliged to pay for from our declining income?

These people see themselves as 'rock stars' and their ego and arrogance only grows with every time they are reelected and THAT is the only time we suddenly become inportant in their lives. They come back 'home' as strutting peacocks, proclaiming all the good deeds they have done FOR us and we, blindly, are talked out of what they have done TO us.

We conservatives, have always looked to Ronald Reagan as one of our heroes and it is justified. He stood far above all for his integrity and undying optimism but he was one of a kind and unlikely to ever be witnessed again. We have had some republicans who have tried to lay claim to his values and integrity but they fail because they just hide the fact that have no true values of their own.

We have looked for 'heroes' in conservative circles in the media such as Fox News, 'conservative pundits', conservative websites et al, and we grasp onto their words to quell our fears but, in the end, the are just words. The same vacuous words we hear from our conservative leaders we elect.

We have been told, just wait for the NEXT election, we'll get it right the next time. the words of Benjamin Netanyahu come to mind..."...Wait for how long and for what"?

We have idolized, as heroes, in our dedicated teachers, in sports, in our great military generals only to see them fall from grace. Our great teachers have been taken over by state edicts, our sport 'heroes' have fallen prey to the idol status and the quest for fortune. Our great generals have capitulated to a corrupt government.

There was a day when parents were respected and looked up to as someone to emulate until the State brushed that away and was replaced by government issue of 'children rights' where parents authority was taken away.

There is one source we have neglected to look for answers and the True Hero is found there and needs to be found again for America to be reborn...just allow Him to remove the scales from your eyes.

you need to get out and listen to the typical 0bama voter. these people despise success of any type... and heroes would be considered successful in one way or another

they associate with 0bama, as he is/has-been a hard core drug user

as long as these people are not ridiculed for being parasites/losers... they will continue to fester and malign all that is their opposite

Thanks for attempting to put things into perspective!

All of history points to that One of whom you speak!

"He comes to us as One unknown, without a name, as of old, by the lakeside He came to those men who knew Him not. He speaks to us, He speaks the same word: 'Follow thou me!' and sets us to the tasks which He has to fulfill for our time. He commands, and to those who obey Him, whether they be wise or simple, He will reveal Himself in the toils, the conflicts, the sufferings which they shall pass through in His fellowship, and, as an ineffable mystery, they shall learn in their own experience Who He is."
Albert Schweitzer - The Ineffable Mystery (1875-1965)

I FOUND SOME!

We The People will Save our Republic, Not the House of Representatives, Not Mitt Romney, Not the Supreme Court. But the breed of American who still stands up and says "I Am Free!"

Not "I have Free Stuff!" or "I Want Free Stuff!"

We will save our Nation.

This is an excellent read - and this is where we need to start from and branch out...our base of operation starts at home - with Christian values - morals taught - and character passed over to our children...that how we defeat this evil that has creep in to our lives — choose not to be a part of what the MSM is selling - choose the life you want and make sure everyone sees your success - your faith - and your ability to weather any chaotic event that comes your way...make other want to be like you — adhere to Christ - for this nation rose up in greatness because of him - and it is Christ that will save us!

Do not rely on an elected leader to do this...

Actually, you have hit on something which relates directly to the ideas and philosophy upon which America's liberty was formed.

Few may have studied and understood it, but the same Jefferson who wrote our Declaration of Independence which, according to him, reflected "the American mind" of the time, also wrote that Jesus "preached philanthropy and universal charity and benevolence," that "a system of morals is presented to us [by Jesus], which, if filled up in the style and spirit of the rich fragments he left us, would be the most perfect and sublime that has ever been taught by man."

He wrote, "His moral doctrines...were more pure and perfect than those of the most correct of the philosophers...and they went far beyond both in inculcating universal philanthropy, not only to kindred and friends, to neighbors and countrymen, but to all mankind, gathering all into one family, under the bonds of love, charity, peace, common wants, and common aids," which, Jefferson said, "will evince the peculiar superiority of the system of Jesus over all others."

Comparing the Hebrew code which, according to Jefferson, "laid hold of actions only," "He [Jesus] pushed his scrutinies into the heart of man; erected his tribunal in the region of his thoughts, and purified the waters at the fountain head."

That Jefferson cut out the statements which he believed to be directly attributable to Jesus, pasted them into a little book which he kept by his bed and, by his own words, read from them daily, might lead one to conclude that his political philosphy probably was influenced by what he considered to be the superiority of the "philosophy" of Jesus.

It is unlikely that any person alive today has read the writings of as many great philosophers as Jefferson. His talents and abilities were legend. His devotion to liberty and to the ideas essential to liberty were based on simple principles, some of which, undoubtedly, came from his understanding of the basic law underlying all valid human law: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Perhaps Jefferson understood: that the philosophy encapsulated in that idea has the power to make people in a society more benevolent, more loving, more caring, and more willing to take care of each other.

There is a sharp contrast between a philosophy of love and the politics of hate which motivate the radical Islamic terrorists, as well as the radical Left which now spouts its personal hatred in our partisan politics. Thomas Jefferson summarized an idea that tyrants of all political persuasions deny: "The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them."

Unless today's citizens rediscover the ideas of liberty existing in what Jefferson called "the American mind" of 1776, we risk going back to the "Old World" ideas which preceded the "Miracle of America."

There are those who call themselves "progressives," when, in fact, their ideas are regressive and enslaving, and as old as the history of civilization.

Would suggest to any who wish an authentic history of the ideas underlying American's founding a visit to this web site, at which Richard Frothingham's outstanding 1872 "History of the Rise of the Republic of the United States" can be read on line.

This 600+-page history traces the ideas which gave birth to the American founding. Throughout, Richard Frothingham, the historian, develops the idea that it is "the Christian idea of man" which allowed the philosophy underlying the Declaration of Independence and Constitution to become a reality--an idea which recognizes the individual and the Source of his/her "Creator"-endowed life, liberty and law.

Is there any wonder that the enemies of freedom, the so-called "progressives," do not promote such authentic histories of America? Their philosophy puts something called "the state," or "global interests" as being superior to individuals and requires a political elitist group to decide what role individuals are to play.

In other words, they must turn the Founders' ideas upside-down in order to achieve a common mediocrity for individuals and power for themselves.

Yep-—you have to be willing to die for freedom. Not many of us left, since so many have been eliminated by the public school indoctrination system and the “religionless” Christian churches and fatherless homes. There are a lot of lazy parasites with no morality.

Thank you for this link! Warner’s observation is clear and challenging! My previous posts point to an 1872 history which links America’s founding ideas to what the historian then called, “The Christian Idea of Man.” Perhaps we need to rediscover and share America’s real history with today’s youth before their future liberty is further eroded by counterfeit ideas.

[...get out and listen to the typical 0bama voter...]

I know they have found their ‘hero’ and once their ox has been gored they MAY start looking for another one.

Then they may find it’s too late.

[Walker is the only one who even comes close.]

I agree he is a good principled man but FIRST we can’t forget who may have allowed him to succeed. I only say MAY because I don’t know His plan.

Quit looking for heros and become one yourself. Sheesh!

You sound like a typical lib looking for someone to protect you and show you the way and take care of you and tell you what to think and give you stuff you want.

I can’t believe this sort of drivel on this web site.

Grow up.

First of all, I rely on faith to set our Republic right again and the last person I would allow to judge me or my motives, certainly isn’t someone who has already given up.

...you have to be willing to die for freedom...

..I turned 3/4 of a century last week. I just knew that Romney would be the first in a long line of leaders who would begin restoring America as I knew it.

I was a kid in the 40's..moving around our little town with ease and no fears. I knew the police, and most of my neighbors..I swam in Jones pond, I ate wild strawberries out of the field on the way to the pond. I was 13 years old in 1950....to young for Korea, and by the time Vietnam really got rolling, I was married with 2 kids and too old.

This election hit me like a ton of bricks. It reminded me that numerous philosophers and political commentators over the last 200 or so years have opined that the time people figure out that they can vote themselves "largess" from the public treasury...its over, freedom is gone and tyranny takes its place.

It appears that this reprehensible milestone has been reached. Largess from the pubic treasury won the election..

...so, as old as I am, I am in for any kind of "redress" of grievances.

I can cook, I can drive trucks, I am still in fair shape...

....and seeking a "leader"...

That;s exactly what needs to happen...US history is not taught the way it was prior to the 90’s...it has been watered down to the point of nonsense...

There’s a book I recommend you get:

Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the U.S. (Book & CD) Benjamin F Morris American Vision $29.95 (Highly Recommended)

the ACLU wants this destroyed...it’s packed for of history...
