Scranton, PA – United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced today that the United States Marshals Service (USMS) arrested Shawn Christy, a 21-year old man, in McAdoo, Pennsylvania.
Christy was being sought on an arrest warrant issued by the United States District Court of Alaska on November 21, 2012, charging him with violation of federal probation.
On June 8, 2012, Christy was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage, Alaska to five (5) years of probation. He and his father Craig Christy had been previously charged with making harassing telephone calls to the law firm that represented Sarah Palin. These calls threatened Palin and her attorneys. In January 2012, both Christys pleaded guilty to the charges.
As a condition of the five (5) years of probation, U.S. District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess ordered Shawn Christy to spend up to six (6) months in a community re-entry program at a Scranton residential facility.
Christy had his federal probation supervision transferred from the District of Alaska to the Middle District of Pennsylvania. In mid-July 2012, Christy entered the Catholic Social Services Residential Program. While residing at the Scranton Catholic Charity Center, it is alleged that Christy left without approval, was verbally abusive toward staff, and caused property damage at the facility.
Shortly after the issuance of the fugitive warrant on November 21, Marshals in Alaska sent an investigative lead to the USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Marshals based in Scranton developed information that the fugitive had returned to McAdoo...

This guy sounds like he has very real “mental” problems. I realize it isn’t as easy as it used to be to put these people away, and overall that is probably a good thing. But what ever happened to the whole “a danger to himself or others” idea? This guy needs to be institutionalized until they find a cure.

Two men from McAdoo, Pennsylvania were sentenced in U.S. District Court in Anchorage on Friday. Craig Christy, 48, and his son Shawn Christy, 20 were sentenced to time served and five years probation. Judge Timothy Burgess also ordered Shawn to spend 6 months in a Pennsylvania community of re-entry where a bed will become available in mid July. Craig Christy is also ordered to perform community service.
The Christys pled guilty in January to charges of harassing phone calls to Sarah Palin’s attorneys. John Tiemessen, one of her attorneys, testified that the 2 men threatened Palin and the attorneys in the calls.
Craig Christy was sent to a federal Bureau of Prisons medical facility where he received a psychiatric evaluation before being returned to Alaska. Shawn was released a month ago and returned to Pennsylvania after an evaluation report indicated that he was not a danger to the public.
Before that, he and his father had been held since their arrests in Pennsylvania last August. Prosecutors say the men were upset about state restraining orders issued on behalf of Palin, a former Alaska governor and the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate. Shawn Christy sharply questioned why he could not go home now instead of to the Pennsylvania community of re-entry, to which the Judge replied it was because he was ordering him to the re-entry. Shawn then called the order ridiculous and after a testy exchange, the Judge called a short recess. He finally agreed to allow him to go home until the bed was available.
Both men could have received much worse. They were faced with a possible jail term of up to two years plus fines up to $250,000 and also, Tiemessen’s law firm was seeking $15,000 restitution for the billable hours when they were tied up with the numerous phone calls for two months. The Christy’s defense attorneys ha told the judge that they did not have the finances to pay the restitution. Burgess did not rule on that part saying that the ruling could still be made in up to 90 days.

How many people obsessivly harassed Gary Hart, or who ever the heck ran with Dukakis, or Jack Kemp or Admiral Stockdale?
No one I can think of....
Yeah, they must think they were so great with their attitude to “take it to the man” by harassing the VP candidate who lost who is female...

I wonder if the U.S. Marshalls could catch the Attorney Gerneral that fast?
