FBI Surveilance Van Hot Spot
December, 3, 2012 | Wuli

Posted on 12/03/2012 10:15:55 AM PST by Wuli

I have a WiFi capable PC, and use that ability to connect a PC to a Verizon FIOs Hub/Router at home, from which I get my Internet Access.

Sometimes my PC is not in the same room as the Verizon hub, and when it is not then the wireless connection is at different states/strengtghs, usually less than excellent.

When the little icon for the wireless connection shows the connection is weak, or dead, I can get a slight improvement by brining up the little window that shows all wireless connections the computer finds available, and then disconnecting and reconnecting the one that represents my Verizon Hub.

There has always been two other "hotspots" showing, that don't belong to me. They could be anywhere among the neighbors around me.

When I was having the problem last week, one afternoon, I noticed that for about one half hour, and no longer, there was an extra wireless connection available that was labeled "FBI Surveillance Van".

O.K.; they could have been trolling, without a warrant or otherwise; but would they also be so stupid to identify their wireless router as "FBI Surveillance Van".???

yes, you can name your router whatever you want. It is a cool thing to freak your neighbors out, espeically one that is not nice...

Some names I liked... I was trying to discourage people from trying to log onto my network, of course...

Paid access -$23.99/day! Just click...

I ended up just naming my network "download virus"...

My nearest neighbor is about 500 yards away and my driveway is 1/4 mile long. If I detected another network, i’d be worried, even if it was called “pink ponies”.

“I name mine “Cat Detector Van”

I thought it was supposed to be covered with aerials.

It’s probably a neighbor trying to scare you away from leeching. Stop leeching and you’ll be fine.

I would name mine ‘Black-Ops Call Sign’ if I knew how to change the current name.

I was thinking more of how after 9/11 occurred, the FBI was shown to lack a modern electronic case file system with text search, word processing, and other common features, or even Internet access and an internal email system for its agents; and after 9/11, the FBI spent hundreds of millions of dollars and years in a failed effort to remedy those defects on its own terms.

Anyway, a grubby Jack Black type or most techies would have a hard time getting through the FBI's hiring process or accepting its button down work environment. Instead, the FBI let in and kept the superficially straight seeming and brilliant weirdo Robert Hansen so he could become a spy for the Russians and a traitor.

Should I change mine to use “Prince of Darkness” or “FBI Surveillance Van”???? Decisions, decisions.

The FBI is notoriously tech-stupid when it comes to computers.

That's why the NSA names all their routers, "FBI Surveillance Van".

I never did/do “leech” a hotspot, any hotspot, from home. Free ones at public places are different and meant to be “leeched”.

I tend to agree with other’s who answered this thread; that some neighbor of mine was playing a joke on the rest of us.

Totally agree about the neighbor playing a joke. Wish I’d have thought of it. Just teasing about the leeching....
