Congress Considers Taxing Internet Sales
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | December 6, 2012

Some Republicans are siding with Democrats around the proposition that online sales should be taxed. Now, Congress is adding a rider to the National Defense Authorization Act that would allow such a tax. The so-called Marketplace Fairness Act, which also has a House counterpart, the Marketplace Equity Act, will allow states to collect sales taxes on retailers who are located out of state.

This would be a fundamental expansion of states’ power to tax; it arguably violates the privileges and immunities clause, allowing states to set up tariffs against other states’ businesses...

For every new tax scheme there are myriads of entitled recipients waiting with their hands out. These pols are just doing the theft that their supporters hired them to do.

Eh, so it’s a sales tax here and a gas tax there, a fee for this and a surcharge for that. The supporters don’t mind because it’s seed faith money to the believers of the government prosperity gospel. The Obama money tree will surely be fruitful and bless them a thousand times over for their faithfulness.

And we all know what they do after the taxes are introduced.....

They raise them!

I’m sure that sometime in the not too distant future, I’ll be able to look at my kids and say: “I remember back when the Internet was free. Like the American West was during the 1800s, and then the politicians and the United Nations came and had their way with it.”

"The so-called Marketplace Fairness Act"

Seems like any time the work "Fairness" appears in the title of a Bill, BOHICA.

“This is terrible tyranny if it passes. “

No it isn’t. The premise that bricks-and-mortar get taxed and internet sales do not is logically faulty.

Tyranny is the situation now, where a small business must be taxed to pay for every little thing in local, state, and federal government, and someone else selling the same thing is not taxed.

If you were concerned about tyranny, you’d be worried about small business of all types being over-taxed.

If everyone could go Galt for awhile and make it really hurt the Internet sales machine, it might put pressure up-line.

I’ve been told by H&R Block reps that Kentucky state law requires citizens to report any catalogue or internet sales where sales taxes were not collected. Having said that, the whole thing is completely on the honor system and is not enforced in any way shape or form.
