Liberals talk about banning guns as if its the same as banning murder and banning evil. Ace of Spades
Gun-free zones are premised on a lie: that murderers will follow rules, and that people like my student are a greater danger to those around them than crazed killers. Thats an insult to honest people. Sometimes, its a deadly one. Professor Glenn Reynolds
Who to blame for mass murder? This may sound weird, but my gut hunch is its probably the homicidal psychotics fault. Robert Stacy McCain
When I got up Friday morning, live-blogging a mass murder was not part of my plan for the day. In fact, at the end of a post Friday morning about labor union violence in Michigan, I promised further developments on that story. As I was researching that, however, the TV kept updating with news about a shooting at a school in Connecticut and I figured this might be a story worth mentioning on the blog.
The original 12:15 p.m. ET post relayed reports that three people have been wounded or injured and one person, the suspected shooter, is dead, but added the caution that early reports on events like this can be often be confusing and/or inaccurate.
To say the very least...

Here’s a comment: Chris Rock can fall off a GD cliff.
Chris Rock is right. I know he is a big lib, but his routines make it sound like there is a closeted conservative trying to get out.
Common sense is quite nearly illegal nowadays and its certainly unfashionable in the Obama Age. So the usual liberal dingbats including the ACLU types who assured us it was a fearless, independent life style for a crazy woman to defecate in public on the streets of Manahattan are telling us we need more gun control.
San Francisco just barely passed a ban on nudity. The east bay had a "naked guy" walking around for years before he commited suicide. Then people were surprised. Just what do you have to do before you get to mass murder that can be seen as a cry for help these days?

Oddly enough, it reminds me of a Bill Cosby act, except that Cosby never used dirty words in his acts.
Still, I liked the "what happened to crazy?" The answer is that the left considers "crazy" to be politically incorrect and judgmental and likely to cause emotional trauma to people who are, um, crazy.
The problem of course with a “dangerous lunatic incarceration act” is
that those who have seized power for their own evil purposes would
use it as a means to institutionalize those pesky opponents that might
interfere with their agenda. Soviet Russia had quite a few “institutions”
where vocal opponents of the regime cooled their heels....and they were
the lucky ones who weren’t eliminated outright. No thanks... laws to
protect us from wackos would be perverted and used against normal
people and the wackos left to wander the streets.
Comment? Worst excerpt ever. :’)
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
Of course; wackos are dependable Democratic voters.
Well didnt congress eliminate the word lunatic from federal regulations a week or so ago?
So I guess maybe you cant be a lunatic anymore at least.
Spirited: At issue here is evil. Why does it exist and what can be done about it?
From the time of the Founders it was understood and accepted that man is both good and bad, thus within each man exists the very real possibility of evil. The way to restrain man’s dark side is through morality—Biblical morality to be specific-—and by diluting power, that is, preventing power from accumulating in the hands of one or a relative small number of people.
Because America’s Progressive Liberals reject the Fall they see no evil within themselves. No matter how obscene their language and actions, they are the essence of ‘good.’
To Liberals, evil exists external to man. It exists in guns, in morality, in genes, in the traditional family, in property ownership, and in all people contaminated by evil systems (i.e., Biblical Christianity and faithful Judaism)giving rise to free market ideas, ideas of individual freedom, ideas that only two sexes exist, etc.
If Alexander Solzhenitsyn were alive he would tell you that America’s Progressive Libs are Manichaean Gnostics, just as were the Soviet Unions Marxist Communists. Seeing no evil within themselves, when they looked upon Russia they saw evil everywhere and like avenging angels fell upon and destroyed every source of it (i.e., churches, priests, property, family), including 60,000,000 men, women, and children contaminated by evil.
We cannot understand Progressive Liberal insanity until we understand what they believe about evil.
Well said.
The Left will ascribe ‘evil’ to you with your blood still hot on their hands.
The Left will ascribe evil to you with your blood still hot on their hands.
Spirited: Exactly. Their wills are unsubmitted to God, so like Cain even if they finally admit to having murdered their brethren they will not repent of it. Lenin for instance, admitted to the blood dripping from his hands but did not repent. Stalin was if anything, even more defiant. Just before passing he sat up on his deathbed and shook his fist in the face of God.
Worth repeating.
“Seeing no evil within themselves...”
Having no ‘truth’ that is not self engendered is the very definition of evil. No actual act is necessary; though of course they will follow...

“At issue here is evil. Why does it exist and what can be done about it?”
spirited irish - that is one of the most thoughtful and incisive essays I have read in quite some time. Thanks for sharing that.
Andrew Martinez. He was a (fully nude) student at the University of California, Berkeley
Let me revise and extend my remarks. The kids Chris is talking about are not the problem. But this is a comedy routine, so I am not going to worry about that. The main point, that the shooter's mental state, rather than the existence of guns, is the point and he is correct to focus on it. Chris Rock would probably be against racial profiling in general, but here he is doing exactly that. Yet the comedy routine would not work if there wasn't enough evidence to fit the profile, and the audience recognize it.
These shooters do seem to be fitting a profile, and I feel if law enforcement is not profiling them, and attempting to find ways to detect them and intervene before they go off, then these students are dying in vain.
There are actually three villains in the situation:
The government is the first, for putting people in insane asylums who should not have been put in there in the first place, and keeping them there once they could have been determined to be sane.
Second is the ACLU, not just content to get the people who should not have been incarcerated out of insane asylums, they continued to force the release of those that certainly should have remained institutionalized.
And third is government, again, who once they realized how much money was saved by turning insane people out on the street, fully embraced the idea of *not* committing all but the very worse of the insane.
The solution to this is clear. It begins by classifying the mentally ill using legal criteria instead of the nonsensical tripe put out by the American Psychological Association, that has lost all credibility.
The first group are “Those that threaten to harm themselves or others.” These include those that have committed criminal acts attributed to mental illness, or who cannot be put in prison because they are incapable of surviving in there. Likewise those who engage in self-harm or self-destructive actions. This group needs to be institutionalized and at a judge’s discretion may be under “supervised probation” after any release, for the rest of their lives.
The second group are those who do not threaten harm, but cannot function in “polite society” because they commit endless “nuisance offenses”, generally misdemeanors, because they are mentally ill, not just being obnoxious.
This group may incorporate drug addicts and confirmed alcoholics, and voluntary committals, who need to be kept away from the substances they abuse and other stresses. As such, rural “funny farms”, that provide a simpler lifestyle, with some degree of minimum security management, would likely be the best. They would grow some of their own food, and perform other tasks as needed for their own support.
The next group include those handicapped with mental retardation, whose families cannot support them. The current system of managed group homes is generally effective for them.
And the last group are outpatient, the vast majority of people with mental illness, the largest group of whom have depression. These generally create few problems other than by voting Democrat.
