Russia has “overfulfilled” its yearly plan of arms exports by half a billion dollars, having sold $14 billion worth of weapons in 2012, President Vladimir Putin has said.

Last year, Russia’s total income from arms and military equipment exports reached $13.2 billion, with $10.7 billion coming from the country’s sole defense exports agency, Rosoboronexport.

Putin urges to seek out new arms export markets

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the Military and Technical Cooperation Committee to “pursue a preemptive tactic” when promoting Russian military equipment in foreign markets.

“Russia will definitely keep its traditional military export partners. But it’s no less important for us to explore new markets and expand the range of produce and services,” Mr. Putin said Friday.

The Russian leader reminded the Committee the country’s defense industry was a regular participant of some 20 military shows and hosted a number of them in its turn, including dozens of international forums like MAX airshow.

They are also selling the new Club K Container Missile system that looks identical to every other 40’ container but has 4 nuke capable cruise missiles that can be launched from a ship, truck, train or just sitting in some storage yard.

Think about it. One container on an old freighter well off the coast could fire 4 missiles in less than a minute that would take less that 5 minutes to reach their targets: DC, Philly, NY, Boston. Then they could board a small yacht, scuttle the freighter and we would never know from whence they came.

We used to hold the high ground there. But we sold 66 billion last year, four times as much. And we sell to the Saudis, the Egyptians, the Iraqis, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, etc etc. We now sell to some of the most nightmareish governments anywhere. Obama is flooding the moslem brotherhood with weapons now.
About the only people we can be counted on not to sell to these days is the US military, or any decent nation that likes America.
Wonder how much of the Russian sales are the Suhkois that are so popular in the asian rim these days? People seem to prefer them to the much slower F-35s.
We offer those as an alternative to the F-22. We won’t even sell F-22s to solid decent nations like Canada, Japan or Australia.

The arms sales world has really gone out of whack lately.

The F35 is single engined and the payload is too small when stealthy. They don't want F22 technology in the hands of our allies.

The Japanese will be flying a stealth demonstrator in a few years. If they ever lift their arms export restrictions they will be competing with the US in the next generation fighter race.
