We'll 'pry guns from cold, dead fingers': Columnist proposes killing NRA members...

DES MOINES, Iowa – For 50 years, the left-leaning columnist Donald Kaul has raged against guns, but after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, he says, it’s time for “anger,” killing gun owners and dragging legislators who disagree with gun control behind pickup trucks until they get the message.

The Pulitzer Prize-nominated columnist penned an alarming screed published in the Des Moines Register in which he further suggested the Second Amendment be repealed and the National Rifle Association be declared a terrorist organization.

“During my 50-year career,” Kaul wrote, “every time some demented soul would take a semiautomatic gun and clean out a post office, a school or a picnic, I’d get up on my soap box and let loose with a withering diatribe about guns, the National Rifle Association and weak-kneed politicians. Did it about 75 times, give or take.”

Yet each time, he lamented, the only result was a spike in gun sales.

“That’s obscene,” he opined. “Here, then, is my ‘madder-than-hell-and-I’m-not-going-to-take-it-anymore’ program for ending gun violence in America.”

His first step: “Repeal the Second Amendment, the part about guns anyway. It’s badly written, confusing and more trouble than it’s worth. … Surely the Founders couldn’t have envisioned weapons like those used in the Newtown shooting when they guaranteed gun rights. Owning a gun should be a privilege, not a right.”

Second: “Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. … Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that ‘prying the guns from their cold, dead hands’ thing works for me.”(continued)

First of all, sorry that Pulitzer Prize thing didn't work out for you. But hey! A "nomination" is good. LOL!

It is you commie types who are always spewing that vomit about the U.S. Constitution being "a living and breathing document". Therefore, the Founding Fathers knew exactly what they were doing when they guaranteed Americans the right to keep and bear arms no matter what the arms looked like or how powerful they were going to be in the future. Sorry Skippy. You lose.

No no, repeal of an amendment is not treasonous, its part of the constitutional function of Congress. But that doesnt make the nonsense that this fellow is spewing any less objectionable.

For four hundred years in this country, my family has had a well-earned reputation for being well-armed, and of not being afraid to use those arms if life, liberty, property, or their communities were threatened.

I'm a descendent of Alice Proctor, the wife of Virginia ancient planter John Proctor. In the Indian attacks and massacres of 1622 in which as many as a third of the Virginians were killed, John was in England, and she and her household held off the savages for a month. The British officers threatened to burn down the Proctor Plantation if she didn't remove herself from the frontier back to Pace's Paines, which she then had to do, but the Indians knew better than to ever come anywhere close to her or her family again.

A few generations later, at the start of the Revolution, five Proctor brothers, including my forebear Little Page Proctor, were part of the Virginia militia that secured the NW wilderness against the British-allied tribes. They were among the forty men with Daniel Boone who held off more than 400 Indians for ten days at Boonesborough, in what became Kentucky.

They knew that when it came down to it they had to depend on themselves and their neighbors, not on some far-off government.

Anyone who thinks it is fundamentally any different now is fooling themselves.

I guess he must be ok with killing some Democrats like Gov. Howard Dean and Senator Harry Reid, because both of them are or were members of the NRA! Maybe someone should inform him of that? Besides, how in the world are they going to know who is a member or not? Someone should inform these people that the New Black Panthers have made numerous vicious threats, and have lots of weapons that have never been taken away!

For those of limited imagination or intellectual horsepower, 20-20 hindsight is a magic wand, that embues them with magical insight that only children can appreciate.

Surely, the Founders couldn't have envisioned a future state of The Republic where the plain language of Art 1 Sec 1 of the Constitution would be superseded by executive orders.
WhereArticle 2 Sec 1 would be 'satisfied' by the simple word of a hack of a corrupt criminal party on her say-so alone, unchallenged by the opposition party, the Supreme Court or a perverted Fourth Estate, having become the mouthpiece of an oppresive regime.

Just to cite two examples.
