.... Fortunately, despite worries about a warming planet, no one is predicting the end of snow anytime soon. Some cold places will see more snow, because warmer air can carry more moisture. In the Northern Hemisphere, snow coverage this past December was the greatest since records began in 1966, Rutgers Universitys Global Snow Lab reported. But Dr. David Robinson, a climatologist at Rutgers, warns that year-to-year fluctuations and regional differences can deceive casual observers. In general, he says, there has been an overall decline in snowfall.
Other studies echo that conclusion. The United States Global Change Research Programs recently released draft National Climate Assessment reports that Overall snow cover has decreased in the Northern Hemisphere, due in part to higher temperatures that shorten the time snow spends on the ground. The report also notes a decline in the frequency of very snowy winters and in snow accumulations in the American West, and said we can expect more rainstorms in previously snow-dominated settings. A recent study by the Natural Resources Defense Council warns that without action on climate change, the snow season in the Northeast will be halved by 2100.

Whatever your feelings for snow, its evanescence will cost you. Frank Lowenstein, a climate specialist with the Nature Conservancy, told me: the snowpack out West is how we store water for the summer for half the country. And its disappearing. That means less summer water for cities, agriculture and recreation. It means more wildfires. Changing ecosystems will also affect wildlife, while less snowy landscapes absorb still more heat from the sun. The National Climate Assessment expects heat-related deaths to increase more than winter-weather-related fatalities will decline.

I could live without it piling up. I certainly don’t enjoy shoveling it, scraping it off my car, and sliding around on it.
Sorry, NYT, science is not your thing. Because of that, you are now doing the bottom dwelling work of non-achievers...journalism.
Enjoy your illusions, but don’t push them on your superiors.
Since temperatures have not been increasing since 1998, the only logical explanation is that a cooling world has less moisture in the air. But hey, lets not wake up the retards with actual facts. The key factor in a cooling world - Are places that normally never see snow, actually seeing snow now ?
the snowpack out West is how we store water for the summer for half the country. And its disappearing.
Here in N. Idaho we have over half of the “desired” amount of precip for this time of year.
I live on a mountain that is a giant sponge. Usually there are 3 or 4 little springs spread over about 25 feet in a certain section of my gravel driveway. Right now there are about a dozen spread out over about 150 feet. I have to dig cross channels to divert the water off the driveway or I wind up with a big glacier in that area.
Yup, that snowpack is just about gone. Morons!
overall decline in snowfall”
not true
Snow cover past 10 yrs is virtually unchanged, last few years have been higher if anything. Minimums have been constant with 1 exception.
Here’s a drought forecast map. Drought expected through the end of April in the West, but it has *nothing* to do with the expected cash cow of man-made global warming. Probably more to do with the few more decent and real ranchers being officiously robbed by schemers.

Everybody complains about the weather but only the corrupt liberal tries to legislate it.
Not "it".
