Longest Serving Republicans in the Senate

Posted on 02/07/2013 6:34:59 AM PST by cotton1706

Orrin Hatch 1977 Thad Cochrane 1978 Charles Grassley 1981 Mitch McConnell 1985 John McCain 1987 Richard Shelby 1987 (origninally elected as democrat)

All others have been elected since the conservative sweep of 1994.

We tried to unseat Hatch and McCain and were unsuccessful. Grassley's ok but needs to retire in 2016. Shelby's very conservative so no problem with him.

Lets get rid of McConnell and Cochrane in 2014. They've both been there too long, vote to undermine conservatives too often, and need to retire or be primaried. Any republican would win in Mississippi and Kentucky just elected Rand Paul. We don't need to put up with these moderates anymore.

Each and every congresscritter deserves two terms...

One in office

and one in prison.

Congress is slime.

“I’m interested in defeating Democrats.”

So am I. I am also interested in defeating their handmaidens.

Sadly I don’t Mississippi going after Thad. He has skated by by being a guy that doesn’t get in front of the camera any.

In the Senate since 1978?
Just go away . . . please.
Too old, too worn out. Yes, TOO OLD. Have some dignity!

Should have been working on grooming a replacement 25 years ago. These dinos that don’t go away clog the system for new blood. We can’t get any movement because of these sclerotic zombies locked in place.

I do not want to take direction, inspiration or guidance from a 40 year teat suckler.

Two terms and you’re out!

No exceptions!

It was never meant to be a lifelong occupation.

So Republicans that vote like Democrats and spend away your children's and grandchildren's future, leaving them with crushing debt and slavery to other nations are Okey Dokey with you?

No, but defeating a Republican with someone who can’t win the general election, thus assuring another session with Harry Reid in charge does not strike me as a very good thing. First priority, win back the Senate. Have you noticed that the Democrats are behaving worse than those evil Republicans that you don’t like.

It's a long war. Mourdock was unfortunate, but we are winning from the state level up, and the states are fighting back.

Bad priority. First priority, win back the states. The Senate will follow.

Don't care. We are slowly winning the ground game at the state level. However, if you want to populate the Senate with Vichy Republicans, then by all means, go have fun and join Karl Rove and his gang. We will continue to work to get rid of your RINO friends as best we can, so that when the battle is called, we won't have Republicans breaking ranks and joining the enemy.

Well, I guess you’re right. Now that we have Senator McMahon, Senator O’Donnell, Senator Angle, Senator Mack, Senator Akin, and Senator Allen things will be turning around. Oh, wait. They should have won, but didn’t and all of those seats are now held by Democrats.

You and I are on opposite sides. I will never convince you of the weakness of your strategy, nor will you convince me otherwise. Trying to get me to accept Vichy Republicans into the cause would be like French Resistance leaders accepting Philippe Pétain’s help in driving the Germans out of France.

Have fun working with Karl Rove and the GOP-e.

everyone of them needs to move aside for a new generation of conservatives.. TEA party brewed..

Grassley and shelby are the only ones worth a dang , imo. Mitch can go munch grass in a pasture and get a good rubdown from Elaine for all I care. Doesn’t Kentucky have anything else in the Gop stable?

Thad has only been in the Senate since 1978. He’s been in Congress since 1972.
