Is the anti-ObamaCare movement finally dead?

Electoral defeats and the Tea Party's diminishing influence have sapped support for the law's repeal

Saturday marks the Affordable Care Act's third anniversary — and with it, the third anniversary of Republican efforts to undo the law.

The future of the law, which fueled the Tea Party's rise and cost Democrats control of the House, was for a long time in doubt. But after the Supreme Court upheld the law, and President Obama won re-election in convincing fashion, calls for repeal have grown noticeably quieter.

Republicans still say they oppose the law, and have backed that talk with votes to defund all or part it. In the latest such instance, they passed Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wisc.) budget, which cut funding for the program. Yet that legislation was clearly more about trimming the budget as a whole than it was an assault on ObamaCare specifically.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) introduced the first bill of this legislative session, one that would fully repeal ObamaCare. It's the same bill she's rolled out twice before, but unlike years past, Bachmann couldn't find a single co-sponsor this time around. So while she denounced the law on the House floor on Wednesday, saying it "literally kills women, kills children, kills senior citizens," she did so with a much smaller coalition backing her up.

So what changed? Was Republican opposition silenced by those mysterious death panels?

For one, Obama won re-election. Republicans had held out hope that a Romney presidency would give them enough power to nix the law.....

Won’t matter. By then it will already be in effect. There’s no way to undo a program like that. Besides, the President can remind everyone it was created by Republicans.

In 2012, Republican voters nominated the creator of Obamacare to be their presidential nominee. (And he was clear it was not a mistake)If both major parties nominated an Obamacare supporter, then any resistance to it is minimal and not impactful.

In terms of the experience the vast majority in this country will have and the perceptions that are created from that experience you will be in a small fringe group. But you may not get out unscathed. Did you read this FReeper's experience with his cash-only doctor?

Furious.

Quote "As of January..and the change to the medical laws and rules and the "Affordable Health Care Act", we have to by law charge after 15 minutes for a separate appointment because the first 15 minutes are considered "Prescription Recheck". If anything goes over the 15 minutes it becomes "Therapeutic Visit". If the doctor does not account for his time with you he will be fined $600.00 and he must account for every single thing that goes on behind that door."

My doctor said his hands are tied. He tries every route he can to avoid billing cash patients more and tries to do a discount but has been warned if he does that then he will be charged with fraud as well. That is why he stopped seeing new patients so he won't be shopped.

Yes, they said everything 100% must be electronic records as well and that if they kept just paper files only that that too would be a punishable offense. EVERYTHING has to be electronic. No and’s, if’s, or buts.

Nobody has to oppose it because it will collapse under its own weight. It is a Rube Goldberg contraption with millions of moving parts that produces nothing its authors claimed it would. ObamaCare is economically and bureaucratically unsustainable. It's a fiscal “black hole.” If allowed full implementation it will wreck the existing health care system in the U.S. including insurers. To fix the crisis Congress may install a Canadian style program or go back to the GOP’s 250-page plan—a preliminary package of deregulation and tort reform aimed at reducing insurance and medical costs. It depends on who's in power when it crashes.

Great guy and doesn’t push crap on me I couldn’t care less about

I just want information about my current state and what I can do to effect a positive change in my “now” state...

Obamacare pushes an opinion not a fact.

You’re in the best position one can be in right now IMO. I hope your doctor can navigate what’s coming.

So, when we shall no longer be, when the parting shall have come about between body and spirit from which we are compacted into one whole, then sure enough nothing at all will be able to happen to us, who will then no longer be, or to make us feel, not if earth be commingled with sea and sea with sky. - Lucretius

That sounds better than any relationship I've had with a doctor.

And my father was a doctor.

Obamacare will be a fiasco that will destroy the health care system

I predict that Obama will be more than ready to get out of the White House in another 4 years as people start finding out what he has done to them.

When people see their premiums double and look for a scapegoat will it be the real cause, Obamascare™, or will the insurance companies be blamed wrongly by a a MSM propaganda campaign?

Assuming the sheeple blame Obama and the Dems who imposed this travesty upon America. What I'm seeing and hearing thus far, is people blaming their employers and the insurance companies for the premium spikes and/or loss of coverage.

Face it. More than half of our fellow citizens are too brain-dead to tie the effect to the cause. They'll curse all the wrong people the entire way down the slaughter chute, straight into single-payer and turd-world health care.

Stay healthy, my FRiend. Your only chance to survive what is to come, is to never get sick. The ObamaCare Plan is for the healthy worker bees to pay into the system and for the rest, who get sick, to die. And to die quickly.

IMHO the Tea Party hasn't gone anywhere, it is how they are working and most here know it.

The question begs, can they-we become a marshalling force of education as our liberal and uber liberal neighbors and relatives start Beyonce-ing about it ( think about it :-) ) and can we show them the way of Free-Market Reforms vs. a Canada style system is the way to go.

IMHO that will be the task.

Tangent to this is why do the Brits and Canadians come to MI ( and other States ) to get healthcare because their systems suck in plain English. Examples of the how and why's of that are hard to dispute and walk away from, and maybe one of the best defenses against what Obama wants his plan to devolve into..

Obamacare, or something like it, was made inevitable by things that have happened going back to 1965.

So, no, it won't be gotten rid of - it will destroy itself, and it will also destroy the medical system it was designed to kill.

Doctors and patients being the decisionmakers is fine - it fact, it's the only way to fly.

Doctors and patients making decisions and paying for them with with other people's money - in fact, not even with OPM but with massive borrowing incurring debts too large to be repaid - that was never fine.

The fact is, Medicare (which remains massively popular, even around here) has killed the system - it just took 40 years to die.

Question: "Is the anti-ObamaCare movement finally dead?"

Response: If compelled to chose between Yes and No I chose Yes. There is a REMOTE possibility that it could be materially changed once people find out the cost. That being said; the law provides "FREE CARE!" Our demographics are changing as Third World incompetents flood our country and they want and need "FREE STUFF!" In less we can fight America is over. It doesnot look like Americans can fight.

Most of the elected officials who were strongly opposing it in 2010 are embracing it now.

That's the real problem, I think - Republican governors used to be against it, but are one by one embracing the "free goodies".
