Maybe the people in Watertown didn’t need one, since every cop in Boston, and apparently the state, too, was there. But maybe the people in other parts of the city, state needed one since they apparently were without any police protection at all! Did she think of that?

Too bad for DiFi that we put an end to her ridiculous plans to make buying a semi-automatic rifle or pistol impossible for American citizens. Come 2014, we need to truly show her the error of her ways. Hint: her bill wasn’t soundly defeated because 90% of Americans thought it was a good idea. When the coup d’etat comes in 2014, they’re gonna have her and her bill to thank for it and we’ll see if they ever bring it up again after that.

Yeah, the whole episode doesn’t reflect too well on the various and sundry law enforcement agencies involved. At a bare minimum more range time should be mandatory. I mean for crizesakes you could fill a dump truck with all of the empty brass. And for what? One dead and one wounded.
shotguns can be excellent home defense choices but there are several reasons not to choose a shotgun. First is that if someone takes a hostage, they’ve effectively eliminated the shotgun as a threat... unless you’re willing to put holes in the hostage.
Second is that the level of penetration is limited and body armor will defeat most rounds.
Third is recoil.
Fourth is limited magazine capacity.
Fifth is size. Thanks to the NFA and the 1968 GCA, the shotgun cannot have a barrel shorter than 18 inches without the owner having to jump through the NFA tax stamp hoops and waiting forever to get it.
I’ll stick to my own choices for home defense that don’t have any of the problems listed above.
